Supporting youth mental health
The Hope for B.E.S.T. organization offers targeted mental health support for students in our area.

The Hope for B.E.S.T. Fest platinum sponsor Mike Cooper, of Cooper Disposal, presents a $5,000 donation to Lori Yeager, founder of the non-profit organization, and her husband Paul.
When Lori Yeager’s triplet brother died by suicide in 2018, she set out to do her part to make sure other families would not have to experience the unbearable grief of losing someone they love.
Through her nonprofit, The Hope for B.E.S.T., she is making a difference by helping students in Avon schools prioritize mental well-being and break the stigma surrounding mental health.
Last month, the community came together at the Hope for B.E.S.T. Fest, raising $25,000. From kids enjoying face painting, balloon art and carnival games to adults winning 100-plus raffle baskets and silent auction items, the event was filled with fun and generosity. Local businesses and community organizations also came together to support the cause, making it a true community effort.
“Every game played, raffle ticket purchased and silent auction bid helps support our mission to help individuals facing mental health challenges by fostering education, compassion and access to resources that prioritize mental well-being,” Lori says. “It truly takes a village to help our children, so I thank all the volunteers, sponsors, local businesses and community members.”
So far this year, the nonprofit has funded programs tailored for students of all ages, as well as school staff and parents. These include sponsoring a Parent Separation Anxiety Information Night for preschool and kindergarten parents at Avon Early Learning Center in August and bringing a motivational speaker to high school students in September to focus on resilience, grit and overcoming adversity.
Donated funds also were used to create a dedicated sensory space at the Avon Middle School, where students can go to recalibrate during the school day, as well as to provide a toolkit for all Heritage School educational aides to use as a resource to support emotional development of the students.
“We also have provided funds to Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s parochial schools to support their programs,” Lori says. “Our goal is to support all students and create conversations around mental health. If young people feel seen, supported and empowered, we can help prevent them from suffering in silence and let them know they are never alone.”
