W hen Dr. Jamie Bennett graduated from dental school, he set as one of his core values investing in the latest technology to cultivate the best patient experience.
After school, he served at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. This put him in the right place at the right time to work with state-of-the-art technology alongside some of the finest board-certified specialists in the world.
When returning home to Cleveland to join his father’s practice—Bennett Family Dental—Dr. Jamie brought his clinical expertise to Case Western Reserve University, where he taught dental students.
Tech that Saves Time, Hassle
Dr. Jamie has invested in a 3D printer, CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacturing) and CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic).
This equipment enables his practice to offer patients more treatment options, such as same-day crowns.
The traditional method for crowns takes two appointments, he explains. During the first the tooth is prepped, impressions are taken, and a temporary crown is placed. The impressions are sent to a lab to make the crown, and the patient must wait and come back for a second appointment so the dentist can remove the temporary and replace it with the permanent crown.
“We are able to do in-house what most other dentists have to send to the lab,” he says. “The digital scan is taken here and new crown modeled and fabricated. It’s the same materials and same process, but we have control over every part of it. The equipment is expensive, but I feel it’s worth it to save my patients time and trouble. Only about one in five dentists in our area can do same-day crowns.”
Another plus? Once they implemented same-day crowns, they’ve received fewer emergency after-hours calls, which are often from patients with temporary crowns falling out.
“I first invested in the CAD/CAM equipment 10 years ago and am already on my third version of it,” he says. “I always challenge myself to stay on the forefront of advancements.”
Dr. Jamie has also invested in cone beam 3D X-ray imaging and a soft-tissue laser for next-level treatment options.
What Same-Day Crowns Mean to Patients
Within many of their five-star reviews, patients who have had same-day crowns at Bennett Family Dental say things like they wish they could’ve given more stars.
Carylin S. had to have a crown replaced and was not looking forward to it. “[In the past] I hated going to the dentist. My experience today was so good. Wow, what a pleasant experience. It was like I was in another world. It was so so different from any of my previous dentist visits. They are a great group of professional people.”
Raymond G. was pleasantly surprised when the office could get him in the next day after he broke a tooth. “A couple hours later, I had a new crown. I was shocked, amazed and grateful—never expecting to get it fixed that fast!”
At the end of the day, Dr. Jamie feels a personal touch is as important as the level of technology.
“Our staff lives up to our tagline of ‘treating your family like our family,’” he says. “Patients comment to me how refreshingly nice everyone is here and that means a lot.”
