How Pristine Clean protects your concrete

Mimi Vanderhaven • October 15, 2025

Truly protecting your concrete requires the right kind of power washing and the right sealant.

Before sealing, Pristine Clean trained and apprenticed technicians clean your concrete surfaces with today’s leading-edge equipment.

Unlike the smooth roads of South Florida, our streets in Northeast Ohio are riddled with cracks and potholes. That’s because concrete is no match for winter’s freeze/thaw cycle.

Neither is your driveway.

“Concrete is porous,” explains Pristine Clean founder Ken Wilson. “When water enters those pores and freezes, it expands—shattering the concrete. This continual freezing, thawing and freezing again creates chipping, cracking and flaking of concrete, eventually leading to expensive replacement of your driveway.”

One way to extend the life of your driveway is to regularly clean and seal it. This stops water from penetrating concrete in the first place…if you use the right sealant.

“Many power washing companies and do-it-yourselfers clean driveways, but don’t seal them,” Ken says. “Others do seal them, but with a surface protectorant that doesn’t penetrate the concrete to protect it from within. That’s why we use a special silane/siloxane formula.”

How It Works (Caution: Science Ahead)

Silanes and siloxanes are chemically similar compounds that Pristine Clean blends to create a penetrating water-repellent sealer. Silanes, the smaller molecules, penetrate deeply, while larger siloxanes provide broader surface protection. Together, they form an invisible, hydrophobic (water-repellent) barrier, reducing water absorption and protecting against freeze-thaw damage, de-icing road salts, mold, and mildew.

The Last Chance is Right Now

If you want to protect your driveway this year, it’s best to hurry. Concrete sealants should not be applied in cold temperatures.

“If we can’t do it right, we won’t do it at all,” Ken says. “Every year, we watch the forecast and eventually have to say, ‘Okay, that’s it. The season’s over.’”

Headquartered in Berea, Pristine Clean beautifies homes throughout Northeast Ohio. It is highly rated on Google, Facebook, and HomeAdvisor, and rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau.
