Having the sensitive talk
The importance of funeral pre-planning.

With the holidays nearly here, and families gathering around the dinner table, many from near and far, now is a good time to find out if your parents or senior loved ones have planned for their final wishes.
I know this might not sound like a fun topic, but it’s a necessary one. Families should be able to have frank and meaningful discussions together about things that matter.
It’s important to be sensitive and compassionate through the talk.
Finding out not only the major decisions like whether your loved one would prefer burial or cremation, but also the details, such as what music they’d want at their service or ways they’d like to be memorialized, can bring a family closer.
Since 1954, our funeral home has held thousands of funerals. Seeing them firsthand, there is a big difference in the stress level between ones in which the deceased has pre-planned and made these decisions, and ones where family members were left wondering what their loved one would have wanted because they didn’t plan.
Taking care of these decisions in advance and leaving nothing to wonder about for those left behind is like a gift of peace and comfort—both to your loved ones and yourself. It takes a burden and weight off their shoulders and gives them space to experience their personal grieving process.
At the end of the day, with so many costs associated with someone passing, the children and widow or widower also appreciates that pre-planning locks into the pricing of services and merchandise at the time of planning. We sit down with clients at our meeting table and go over options and selections. It doesn’t take long and when it’s done, you and your family have peace of mind going forward.
