Flooring the community

MDG Flooring America’s newest North Olmsted showroom offers more than quality underfoot.

MDG’s affiliation with Flooring America, a more than 500-store nationwide cooperative, allows the store to offer an all-encompassing selection of products and materials at competitive prices.

Nearly 25 years ago, MDG Flooring America opened its doors in Medina as a small, family-run business with a vision. Today, with the recent addition of its North Olmsted location, it stands as a two-showroom powerhouse, shaping homes across Northeast Ohio.

From its humble beginnings, MDG dedicated itself to helping homeowners transform their kitchens, revamp their baths, and explore an extensive selection of flooring—from plush carpets and timeless hardwoods to sleek luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and resilient tile.

While the company embraces future growth, its foundation remains rooted in the principles that inspired its success: quality craftsmanship, personalized service and an abiding commitment to the community.

A Lasting Legacy

Founded in 2001 by Michael Green, MDG Flooring moved to its Pearl Road location in 2004, providing customers with a more expansive showroom experience. In 2016, the business entered a new chapter as ownership transitioned to the founder’s nephew, Steve Walbolt, now president, and his son Donny Green, vice president.

For the founder, the handoff to the next generation ensured that MDG Flooring remained family-owned-and-operated while establishing a foundation for lasting success.

“Steve and Donny have brought fresh leadership while honoring the legacy of our founder,” says Christina Walbolt, MDG’s director of marketing. “Their vision has allowed MDG to grow while staying true to the values that have guided us since the beginning.”

From its roots as a single Medina showroom, MDG Flooring America has grown, expanding its reach and refining its offerings to solidify its reputation as a trusted name in home design and improvement for many across the region.

That foundation is the cornerstone of its expanding presence, most recently in North Olmsted.

A Homecoming

Located directly across from Great Northern Mall, the North Olmsted showroom, which officially opened in early November, feels like a homecoming for Steve and General Manager Jake Patay.

“We grew up in North Olmsted, so this feels like coming home,” Christina shares.

The new showroom reflects the quality and range of offerings at MDG’s Medina location while highlighting what sets MDG apart: a personal, community-focused approach supported by the buying power of the national cooperative Flooring America.

“Unlike big-box stores, we offer exclusive products through our co-op partnerships with manufacturers who have been around for over a century,” Christina explains. “These tried-and-true manufacturers make products that are available only to retailers like us, ensuring our customers receive quality that’s simply unmatched.”

Flooring America, one of the world’s largest purchasers of flooring materials, empowers MDG to provide its customers with premium products at competitive prices.

“By leveraging our co-op partnerships, we can deliver exceptional value without sacrificing style or quality,” Christina adds. “Our warranties—some lasting up to 25 years—reflect our confidence in our products and services.”

One standout product currently offered is flooring with Microban technology. The antimicrobial solution integrated during manufacturing resists bacteria, mold and mildew growth. Available in select carpets and LVT options, this technology adds a permanent, low-maintenance layer of cleanliness.

Christina says the company’s commitment to the community is just as integral to its success.

“For both locations, we do something called Give Back and Save,” she says. “Each month, we partner with a different local program to collect donations, offering our customers discounts on flooring as an incentive to support these causes.”

A Forward Focus

Building on its current success, Christina reveals, like Medina, that the new showroom will also feature Kiba Studios, further solidifying MDG’s reputation as a one-stop shop for home improvement. By this spring, the North Olmsted location will provide the same comprehensive range of services, including custom showers, tile backsplashes and full kitchen and bath remodels, complementing the extensive selection of flooring materials available now.

MDG is also preparing to launch online scheduling, which will allow customers to book consultations directly, adding a layer of convenience.

Meanwhile, updates to the Medina showroom are underway.

True to form, MDG is staying ahead of design trends, such as the growing popularity of light, coastal-inspired flooring styles. With pale wood tones like white oak and sun-bleached finishes, these styles create bright and inviting spaces, evoking a relaxed beachside ambiance.

Through MDG’s evolution, one constant has remained: a dedication to quality craftsmanship, personalized service and an abiding commitment to the community.

“Our goal is to offer products that not only meet design trends but also stand the test of time,” Christina asserts. “Our focus has always been on creating spaces our customers will love today and for years to come.”
