Comfort leaders

As one of the most trusted heating and cooling companies in the area, more and more people are turning to the team of experts at S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal.

S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal installs and repairs all types of HVAC systems, including gas, electric, boiler, steam and radiant, as well as hot water tanks, tankless water heaters and air purifiers. Since it was founded in 1989, S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal has been one of Northeast Ohio’s trusted sources for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) services. At the helm is company founder Mark Staron Sr., who just received the 2025 Hinckley Citizen of the Year award.

Currently the president of the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce, Mark has had a hand all over town in business and charitable endeavors, giving back to the community where he founded his business more than three decades ago.

This perfect blend of community involvement, technical expertise and strong work ethic makes S&S Heating and Cooling a leader in its field.

“We are thankful so many homeowners and businesses have put their trust in our company to install and maintain their HVAC equipment,” says Mark Staron II.

The company installs and repairs all types of HVAC systems, including gas, electric, boiler, steam and radiant, as well as hot water tanks, tankless water heaters and air purifiers.

“We offer Trane air conditioners and furnaces as our company is constantly innovating and has different models and sub-brands to fit all budgets,” Mark says.

Just like most technology nowadays, air conditioners are getting smarter.

New inverter air conditioners adjust compressor speed based on real-time cooling needs, resulting in more precise temperature control and energy savings. Smart thermostats link to your smartphone, tablet or computer, so you can control your settings from anywhere. Computer diagnostics can be sent directly to your local HVAC company to help prevent costly repairs.

What does this mean for homeowners? There have never been more ways to cool their spaces—and stay comfortable this summer.

“More than just helping people stay cool during the summer, we help them save money with high-efficiency products designed to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills,” Mark says.

The company has just been certified as a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Dealer, which, in partnership with Trane, manufactures ductless mini-split systems. Ideal for retrofits, additions or even new construction, mini-splits require no ductwork as the sleek indoor units can be wall-mounted or ceiling-recessed.

“As a Diamond Dealer we give our customers two extra years on the warranty. Instead of the standard 10-year warranty, we offer a 12-year warranty,” Mark says.

“Ductless mini-splits have been big in Europe and Asia for years, and now in the last 10 years are getting more prevalent here,” he says. “They are ideal for homeowners building a loft above a garage, farms that need temperature-controlled rooms and anywhere else that doesn’t have existing ductwork.”

“With all of the high-tech touches nowadays, we still take pride in old-fashioned customer service,” Mark adds. “We take time to talk to our customers and get to know them so we can make the best recommendations. Then together we can find the best solutions for their family or business.”

Fine-Tune Your Air Conditioner

Though we had a colder and wetter spring than normal, even by Northeast Ohio standards, now that the temperatures are rising, homeowners realize that air conditioning is more than a luxury—it’s a necessity.

“We always tell people not to wait until the hottest day of the summer to discover their air conditioner isn’t working properly,” Mark Jr. says. “Now is the time to schedule a clean and check. Think of an annual tune-up as if it were an oil change for your home. You would never think of skipping an oil change for your car because it wouldn’t operate properly, so the same holds true for your air conditioner.”

Often it is the little things that can add up to costly repairs. According to Mark, the number one reason air conditioners stop working properly is because the homeowner does not change the A/C filters regularly and they accumulate dirt.

The S&S Precision Tune-Up is a thorough service with a 30-plus-item checklist. The technicians tune, clean, lubricate and make any necessary adjustments to keep the unit running at peak efficiency. The company has a dedicated staff of tune-up technicians who are certified by North American Technician Excellence (NATE).

“We go above and beyond what most companies do during the tune-up as we include a no-rinse evaporator foam cleaner that we use on the coil that has a “fresh, lemon scent” to improve energy efficiency and remove added stress on the motor,” Mark says.
