Back yards with impact

Here’s how Impact Landscaping can help you craft the ultimate outdoor retreat in your back yard.

When it comes to carving out your own little outdoor oasis, Impact Landscaping can take you there.

An outdoor bar flanked with barstools and a grill. A glistening pool with a built-in tanning ledge. Scents of herbal lavender and the floral aroma of gardenias wafting in the air.

No, you are not at a five-star resort in the Caribbean. You can luxuriate in all this and more in your own backyard.

A local, family-owned business, Impact Landscaping is building outdoor oases for homeowners that rival those anywhere.

As a company with landscape and home remodeling divisions, Impact has a unique perspective when designing inside and outside spaces. From designing backyard kitchens that look like they belong indoors to remodeling stunning home interiors, it is seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living spaces.

“We have a beautiful spring, summer and fall in Ohio when we can enjoy the change of seasons. The only difference is filling in the gaps when the weather is not ideal,” says Joe Chiera, who, along with his wife Kristen, owns Impact Landscaping and Impact Home Remodeling. “We specialize in designing and building outdoor pavilions, pergolas and other covered patio spaces that provide shelter so homeowners can enjoy their outdoor areas almost year-round.”

Outdoor Hardscapes

Impact designs and installs outdoor spaces that are an extension of your home and provide extra square footage of living space—from home additions with retractable screens leading to an outdoor patio, to a pavilion set back in the yard with a meandering walkway guiding you back to a tranquil sitting area, to a pergola framing an outdoor kitchen.

Always with a nod to nature, Impact incorporates natural elements into all its designs, along with modern conveniences.

For one Copley homeowner, the company built an expansive 20-by-36-foot pavilion that had everything a house would—a ventless fireplace and electric heaters, a kitchen with sink, refrigerator and grill, TV and music speakers, lighting, and even a bathroom.

The pavilion, which is constructed from cedar, a tongue-and-groove oak ceiling and six pillars wrapped in cultured stone, was designed so it could be used for three seasons.

“We created a resort-like back yard with different entertainment spaces, each with their own features,” says Jeff Heinl, Impact co-owner and vice president. “There is a mix of open spaces and covered areas all connected by a colored concrete patio with inlaid pavers.”

Though Impact has carved out a market niche designing award-winning pavilions, the company installs all types of hardscapes, using both manufactured products and natural stone products to create patios, pergolas, retaining walls and walkways.

“We like to create outdoor living areas that flow from inside your home all the way to the back of your property,” Joe says.

Water Features

Impact likes to incorporate a mix of water and fire features, as well as lots of natural elements, in all its landscape designs. The goal is to provide an outdoor space that is relaxing.

“Growing up, I was always playing in the woods and creeks, so I really enjoy bringing that sense of adventure to backyard landscapes,” Joe comments. “There are a lot of different water features we can add to your landscape design, from fountains to koi ponds to waterfalls cascading down boulders.”

One of the biggest focal points homeowners can add to their back yard is a swimming pool.

Impact installs fiberglass pools in all shapes and sizes designed with unique features, such as tanning ledges and beach entry slopes.

“Fiberglass pools are very low- maintenance,” says Joe, noting there is no liner, they don’t need re-plastering and you won’t snag swimwear. “If you want a pool for this summer, now is the time to schedule the project as we can start digging next month.”

Impact’s expert landscaping crew can also plant trees, shrubs and perennials to soften up the edges around the pool or any hardscapes.

“For every landscaping and home remodeling project, our goal is to maximize your living space by providing more useful space for your family—and make it beautiful,” Joe says.
