Exterior beauty, interior wellness

NEO Aesthetic Institute is widely known for helping people turn back the clock on the outside, but the recent addition of two revolutionary modalities is helping people reclaim their health on the inside.

NEO Aesthetic Institute in Lyndhurst has recently expanded and elevated its treatment lineup to become a functional wellness center for the face, mind and body.

“By adding functional wellness, we are shifting our paradigm, addressing patients’ beauty inside and out,” says founder Dr. Nicholas Husni, MD, PhD. “It’s gratifying to make people feel better about themselves. When you look better and feel better, you live better.”

With more than 21 years’ experience in the field, Dr. Husni grew up on the East Side, went to Boston College for undergraduate and Boston University School of Medicine for his MD and PhD.

“I started out wanting to be an orthopedic surgeon, but when I delved into wound healing, it piqued my interest in plastic surgery,” he says.

A fellowship in cosmetic and breast surgery at The Cleveland Clinic brought this board-certified plastic surgeon home again.

Restore Function

Dr. Husni says many of his patients complain about mild to serious incontinence, from leaking a little when they sneeze, cough or laugh, to the sudden urge to use the bathroom, to needing to wear adult diapers.

“It’s more than just embarrassing. When you have to wake up to pee four to five times a night, it affects your quality of sleep,” he says.

When he heard about Emsella, a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that strengthens the pelvic floor through high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy, he was happy to bring it into his practice.

“We’ve seen an amazing success rate, around 95% in women and men, for treating incontinence as well as sexual dysfunction,” he says.

During a session, the patient simply sits on a specialized chair, fully clothed, for less than 30 minutes. Each pain-free treatment produces the equivalent of doing more than 15,000 Kegel exercises to rebuild muscular strength and control. Dr. Husni recommends two sessions per week over a two- to three-week period.

“Both childbirth and menopause can wreak havoc on the pelvic floor,” he adds. “It’s rewarding to be able to undo weakness and restore function.”

Calm Down, Eat Less, Drink Less

Another functional wellness treatment the institute is excited to introduce to Cleveland is the Exomind.

“Also based on magnetic properties, this drug-free technology produces noninvasive, transcranial brain stimulation to increase the release of neurotransmitters and restore neuroplasticity,” says Dr. Husni. “Working on the prefrontal cortex, or the brain’s command center, it treats depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, PTSD, OCD and seasonal affective disorder. The treatment also improves sleep quality and cognitive clarity, addresses overeating, and decreases the desire to drink alcohol. Every patient of mine who has tried Exomind therapy has lost weight.”

Patients lie down and relax during the 30-minute treatments, which feel like a light tapping on the top of their head.

Joining these new functional wellness treatments, the institute offers the full gamut of cosmetic procedures and surgeries, including BOTOX, fillers, peels, microneedling, liposuction, breast augmentation, Emface, Emsculpt NEO, tummy tucks, face and eyelid lifts and rhinoplasty.

“There’s been a significant increase in plastic surgery since Covid. We call it the ‘Zoom Boom,’ because the more people spent time looking at themselves on Zoom calls, the more they wanted to change what they saw,” he says.

Whatever the treatment, patients appreciate that the cheerful, close-knit staff, including patient coordinators Karen Scherma and Debbie Stella, takes the time to get to know them.

The Institute’s posh décor is just as welcoming and approachable as the staff, more luxury than medical, punctuated by large-format wall murals depicting nature, curated artwork, and modern leather furniture.
