Dr. Laurel Matthews, a board-certified physician with more than 35 years of practice experience and the owner of Dr. Laurel’s PRP Bar, has just introduced a revolutionary new way to lift skin, fill in pronounced wrinkles and add volume to the face—without surgery or downtime.

Offered to her patients as UpLift, the procedure is based on the use of the Nova brand of synthetic PDO (poly diaxanone) absorbable suture thread. After targeting areas on your face that need increased volume or to be lifted, Dr. Laurel will draw out the path her pre-loaded suture needle will follow. The patient is injected with lidocaine to numb at the entry point, and, depending on the desired end result, either a barbed or smooth thread is inserted under the dermis.

“For adding volume,we use a smooth Nova Mesh thread. For lifting, we place a barbed Nova Lyft thread, hold it in place as we remove the needle, then pull the thread into the desired location before snipping the end,” she explains.

“The results are immediate, dramatic and last up to two years.”

The cost of the procedure is based on the number of threads used and whether they are smooth or barbed.

After about three months, the PDO thread is naturally absorbed into the skin, and, in its place, collagen has grown to maintain the effect.

“We’re creating a controlled healing environment,” Dr. Laurel explains. “After the initial insertion of the thread, the change is gradual. As the threads dissolve and new collagen is formed, the result is a very natural-looking mini facelift that costs a fraction of what a liquid or surgical facelift costs.”

The UpLift thread lift is ideal for any area beneath the eyes that would typically require a facelift or be treated with fillers, including the cheeks, the nasolabial folds, the corners of the mouth and the neck.

“Even with really saggy skin this works extremely well,” she says. “Synthetic PDO thread has been used for decades in plastic surgery and reconstruction. It’s one of the best materials you can put in your body. There is no scarring and the procedure can be repeated.”
