We’ve lived in the same house for 30 years, ever since our family moved from Columbus, Georgia to Akron. And in those 30 years I’ve done something several times many homeowners don’t know is possible for a residential customer.

I rented a dumpster.

I did this once to clean the garage and basement, once to clear built-up lawn debris, and a third time to remove an old wooden fence.

I love dumpsters. They take the stress out of many home improvement projects because you don’t have to worry about how to get rid of stuff. There is a sense of joy and relief as you hurl something over the side of the container knowing someone will arrive soon and just take it all away.

That someone is Nick Roth, founder of Nick’s Landscaping & Dumpster Rentals. Nick started as a teenager mowing grass and has grown his enterprise into a large commercial landscaping firm with a fleet of dumpsters—available to both homeowners and contractors—in a variety of sizes.

“Our most popular size is the 15-yard dumpster,” Nick says. “It’s as wide as a parking space and as long as two parking spaces, but it features low, 40-inch sides so it’s easy to toss things into it.”

Nick’s dumpsters also feature a wide swinging door in the back to make it is easy to walk in heavy items.

The company has a large customer base of contractors who rely on their containers but, like me, homeowners can find joy in the experience, too.

“A dumpster is ideal for lots of household projects,” Nick says. “Our customers rent them to clean out garages and basements, collect construction debris, remove old outdoor sheds, hot tubs, and play sets, and get rid of piles of yard waste. We even haul away dirt and concrete.”

How It Works
To get started, you simply call Nick’s Landscaping & Dumpster Rentals to schedule a container. You’ll speak with a pro who will help you determine what size dumpster you need. “That’s what makes us different,” Nick says. “We don’t just take your order. We talk with you about the size and scope of your project. Most people don’t order a dumpster every day, so we give them guidance to make sure they get what they need.”

And unlike the big national companies, Nick’s is fast. “Some places need several days’ notice to get you a dumpster, but we aim for same-day service,” Nick explains. “If you call before lunchtime, we can usually have you a dumpster delivered on that same afternoon. And we’re fast about picking the dumpster up. You don’t want a full container sitting in your driveway for days. We try to pick it up the same day you ask us to.”

How Much Does It Cost?
The dumpster rental industry is not like renting a car. You don’t pay by the day. There is a standard flat rental fee good for up to one week. That means you can take your time completing your job and not worry about having to get it all done in a day or two. The rate for the 15-yard dumpster, for example, is $380, a great deal considering the price includes the dumpster, the driver loading it up and dropping it off at your location, picking it up later, then taking your load to the landfill or other appropriate facility to be disposed of. It also includes the joy of seeing your junk pull out of the driveway and disappear without you having to think about it.

Nick’s also rents pod-like storage containers starting at $6 per day and does commercial landscape installation based on architectural blueprints. “We do landscape installations for all kinds of businesses, from office buildings to medical facilities, golf courses, developers and more,” Nick says.

So if you’re finally ready to clean the garage, tear down the shed, remodel the bathroom, or do spring clean-up in the yard, make it easy on yourself and rent a dumpster. It’s fast, easy, affordable and takes the stress out of large home projects.
