To pass the winter in a torpid or resting state,” is how Merriam-Webster defines hibernating.

While it might be a juncture for slowing down and pushing the reset button, the dead middle of winter is also when homeowners spend the most time indoors staring at their four walls and getting busy improving them. Not surprisingly, January-February is the busiest time of year for indoor painters.

“Homeowners want to freshen their interior spaces and pull their own home makeover,” says Andrew Smola, co-owner of Curb Appeal Painting.

Aren’t sure which colors to go with? Not a problem. Since these painters have been in the profession for decades, they excel in helping homeowners select colors to best fit their décor, functionality and feeling. They’ve transformed some of the poshest homes on the East Side and can custom blend any color imaginable to suit your home, too.

Waving the Wand
Especially this time of year, with folks starting to get their tax refunds back, cabinets getting a new lease is the number one job at Curb Appeal.

“I’d say most of our cabinet refinishing jobs are to take dated oak cabinets into the modern world in white or cream shades,” says Curb Appeal’s Rob Drago. “And thanks to our professional-grade paint products, the finishes are as durable and long-lasting as they are beautiful.”

These pros go the extra mile and then some to leave a like-new finish that will stand up to the rigors of kitchen wear and tear. First, they create a “dust wall” to make sure no dust or spray travels into the home, then they disassemble doors, drawers and hardware, apply the primer, paint and then reassemble.

In addition to transforming kitchens, these trusty crews can revitalize any room with an infusion of color, not just on walls, but trim and doors as well.

“Taking down wallpaper is another service we specialize in,” says Rob. “This is one of those tricky and painstaking jobs that’s often best left in the hands of professionals. We have the tools and products to take down even the most stubborn layers of wallpaper.”

In addition to transforming kitchens, the trusty crews at Curb Appeal Painting can revitalize any room with an infusion of color, not just on walls, trim and doors, but cabinets as well.

Looking Up
Michelangelo didn’t spend five years painting the Sistine Chapel for nothing. Ceilings add depth, balance, interest and intrigue to any room.

“We do a lot of ceiling work,” says Rob. “If a ceiling is dingy or stained, that can really put a bad cast on the room beneath it. Oftentimes kitchens have food-soil stains, or homes of smokers become yellowed. The brighter white your ceiling, the more open and inviting the rest of the room. A pristine ceiling can bring all the other colors to life.”

He says they also paint accent colors on ceilings for a sophisticated and creative effect, especially in smaller spaces like bathrooms, laundry rooms and mud rooms. It can contrast with the room’s palette or be the same color as the walls for a feeling of expansiveness and infinity.

“Texture makes a difference, too,” he adds. “No one wants popcorn ceiling textures anymore. We have been sanding those down for a flat look before painting.”

Come meet the staff and see before-and-after demonstrations of cabinet refinishing at the Curb Appeal Painting booths.
