Karen Hadden, owner of The Helicopter Daughter, knows all about the importance of the mother-daughter relationship. It’s that special connection and how, for Karen, it turned into a daughter caring for her mother at the end of her life. This role made a profound impact on Karen and was the driving force for her to open The Helicopter Daughter.

Unable to find help to offset the side effects of harsh medications and ways to reduce her own stress after the death of her mother, Karen opened a boutique filled with books and products to ease the physical and emotional side effects of illness experienced by patients and caregivers.

“I wanted to create a space where people battling an illness, their caregivers and loved ones could come and find something that offers a way to take a moment to care for them-selves,” says Karen. “I continue to add new lines of items for yourself or anyone for any occasion.”

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Karen has added the popular Spartina 449 line of accessories, jewelry and clothing.

“The colors, textures and southern vibe of Spartina 449 pieces make wonderful gifts for all the moms in your life and they’re available at all different price points,” says Karen.

At The Helicopter Daughter, Karen doesn’t want it to be all about the bad stuff, and when you meet her, you’ll know why. She has a fabulous sense of humor along with a caring nature that makes you want to sit, stay and chat.

“Meeting customers and hearing their stories is the very best part about my work,” says Karen. “I love hearing someone’s story and knowing just the thing that will help.”

“Especially on Mother’s Day, whether here or gone, we will honor our mothers. I know I will,” Karen smiles.
