For those who are putting together an action plan to age gracefully, the pursuit of happiness should be tops on the to-do list.

The link between physical health and mental health is significant. Exercise encourages the brain to release serotonin and other feel-good hormones, leaving a lasting feeling of wellness.

Research backs up the effects. According to a recent study, physical activity improves cognitive processes and memory, has analgesic and antidepressant effects, and even induces a sense of well-being, giving strength to the ancient principle of “mens sana in corpore sano” (a sound mind in a sound body).

In a few weeks, on Sunday, November 5, we turn the clocks back and the shorter days will seem even shorter and darker, which can lead people to feel depressed.
