One morning a couple of weeks ago, I went to my daughter’s house to pick up my grandson for the day. When my daughter Kat came downstairs, still in her pajamas, I said, “Wow, your makeup is fabulous!”

“Dad,” she smiled. “I’m not wearing any make-up.”

She noticed my surprised expression. “This is what happens when you go the right spa,” she said.

“Where do you go?” I asked.

“It’s called Skin Care Solutions.”

“Wait,” I said. “I think Mimi is running a story about them in our January issue.”

“Really?” she replied. “I love that place. Can I write the story?”

“Sure,” I answered.

So here, in my 36-year-old daughter’s own words, is her story:

Rediscovering Self-Care
A few years ago, my rediscovery of self-care became a transformative journey. As a business owner and a single momma, the only self-care I knew revolved around a solid seven hours of sleep. But when I met my husband, I started understanding the power of letting my shoulders down.

For me, self-care became woven in with my yoga practice, leisurely hikes with my 7-year-old son, soul-filling dinners with my husband and outings with best friends.

At SCS Elite MediSpa, injectables such as fillers and neurotoxins are performed on clients of all ages by trained and experienced physicians like Dana Bonezzi, MD, instead of a nurse. Proper dilution and precise placement mean your results will often last much longer than you expect.

Over a morning coffee with my friend Melissa, I couldn’t help but notice her radiant skin. I said, “What’s happening with your face?” Melissa, puzzled, looked at me, and I rephrased more eloquently, “You are glowing. Your skin is gorgeous—and it looks like you’re all fresh and rested.” (Considering she also owns a business, I knew relaxation wasn’t the secret.)

Skin Care Solutions
She then revealed her Skin Care Solutions Elite MediSpa experience. She described it as an oasis with an emphasis on looking and feeling like yourself (but better). “I’m 47, and this is one of the best things I do for myself and my skin. I don’t want to look like I’ve done anything, but I want to look like the best version of myself,” she confided.

After coffee, I researched the SCS Elite MediSpa team. With initial skepticism (fueled by my aversion to needles and past Botox disappointments), I found glowing reviews of the three founding physicians—Dana Bonezzi, MD, Debra Fast, DO and Kathleen Fearon, DO.

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Bonezzi, board-certified in Internal Medicine and a Master Injector with over two decades of experience.

The moment I stepped into the SCS Elite MediSpa office and met the team, I felt an immediate sense of comfort. I shared with them I wanted to look like me—not with a frozen face, just a little less tired version of myself (and without my hereditary angry wrinkle).

Finally, Botox That Lasts
At every turn of our conversation, I knew I was in the hands of experts—artists who explained skilled techniques and up-to-date education for the most natural enhancements.

I started with a bit of Botox and was astonished when it lasted six months.

When I returned for another visit, I asked why it lasted so much longer than previous treatments, and learned Botox providers dilute their solutions at different levels. And based on the amount of dilution—combined with the specific placement you inject—you obtain better results. Plus, unlike at many other spas, a physician does your injections, not a nurse. The onboarding process is different, too. These doctors don’t introduce a new procedure or injectable based on what a salesperson says. They first try it on themselves and models, a process that can take up to six months.

During this second visit, Dr. Bonezzi performed a subtle brow lift with Botox and introduced me to the game-changer—the lip flip.

What’s the Lip Flip?
Not quite ready for lip filler, this personalized approach was precisely what I needed—less of the “I’ve had my lips done” and more of the effortless “I woke up like this.”

The lip flip involves the strategic placement of a small amount of Botox units along the upper lip muscle, inducing a gentle relaxation and subtle “flip” for a fuller, naturally plump appearance.

Now, several times a year, I walk into SCS Elite MediSpa and ask, “What are we doing today?” The trust is at that level. The trust I have in this team (as one perfectionist to another) is unlike any other specialist I’ve known. And it has become an integral part of my self-care routine.

Self-care, I believe, is in the intricacies of our everyday choices—through mindful details. It’s in the quiet moments, the personalized rituals, and the intentional investments we make in ourselves that we get to feel the beauty of self-love.

Just last week, a girlfriend commented at dinner, “Kat, your skin. You are glowing—what are you doing?” I quietly laughed and shared, “I’ve been exactly where you are!” And cherished sharing my favorite secret—the talented experts at SCS.
