It seems like R.A. Kalfas Construction has its hand in a little bit of everything around town. For the past three decades, this locally owned business has been remodeling homes, beautifying neighborhoods, and giving back to their community.

Founded by Bob Kalfas, a siding installer turned entrepreneur, the family business keeps growing as daughter Cortney Kalfas, now Vice President, and son-in-law Chris Gibson, now Vice President of Sales—making this company a true family owned and operated business.

“We build American dreams and we can improve on yours,” is the company motto and as a general contractor focusing on custom home remodeling, R.A. Kalfas takes on all types of jobs, big and small. Larger projects like kitchen and bathroom renovations, room additions, finishing basements and building decks and outdoor living spaces are just a few examples. Smaller scaled projects include painting, window/door installs, siding, roofing and much more.

For all R.A. Kalfas Construction home renovations, Founder Bob Kalfas (right), VP Cortney Kalfas and VP of Sales Chris Gibson (left), offer architectural and interior design services, in addition to quality construction services.

Cortney, who learned the business from the ground up and was one of only two girls in her class at Bowling Green State University to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management tells us, “If you are thinking about remodeling your home next year, now is the time to start planning. For all our home renovations, we offer architectural and interior design services, in addition to our quality constructions services. We customize each remodel based on how your family functions in your home.”

This past year, Cortney shares two of the most requested renovations are kitchen and master suite remodels. “These two remodeling projects usually have a high return on investment so many homeowners are looking to update these spaces. We have been remodeling a larger number of master suites which include the bedroom, bathroom and closet to help create the ultimate luxurious space, a homeowner’s retreat.”

R.A. Kalfas specializes in millwork, like this clever use of space under a staircase for wine.

R.A. Kalfas also specializes in custom millwork. Trending right now are dimensional walls. Whether it is a shiplap wall which is a popular farmhouse design or vertical slats which offer a more modern look, custom trim work can offer a distinctive style to your space. Cortney tells us, “A dimensional wall is a fun design element that can really make your space unique.”

“We are a full service remodeler, offering a large variety of services, so whether you want an accent wall, a kitchen remodel or an addition, we can help,” she says.

R.A. Kalfas can help keep your family organized, even in small spaces.

Customer communication is key. R.A. Kalfas has a program offering clients more involvement with their projects. This allows for more customer interaction with the project. At any time, with just a click, homeowners can view their contract, see their material selections, review change orders, send messages, view before-and-after photos, and obtain project scheduling.

Over the past 35 years, R.A. Kalfas has been a staple around town, giving back to the community and distinguishing itself as a trusted contractor.

The company worked in helping build the Strongsville High School’s football stadium and baseball fields, as well as the original Castletown Playground.

In addition to adding functionality, kitchen updates can offer a high return on investment.

“My dad has instilled that it is important to give back to the community that supports you, so we do a lot of volunteer work.” Bob and Cortney currently serve as active trustee members for the Strongsville Chamber of Commerce. The company is also a big supporter of A Special Wish, the Cleveland chapter.

R.A. Kalfas has deep roots in the community and is looking forward to one day becoming a third-generation business. Chris’ 11-year-old son Rob already has business cards printed with the title “future company president.”

“My father and I both live and work in Strongsville so we plan on making this our home base for years to come.”
