Art in all of its forms is taking over Veteran’s Park in Painesville. Art in the Park festival will be held on Saturday, August 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Live music, food trucks and kids’ entertainment and crafts will fill the square, along with over 60 vendors selling pottery, jewelry, paintings and more.

“We love to celebrate all mediums of art at this juried art show,” says Barb Monacelli, economic development events coordinator for Painesville.

“It’s a great way to spend a summer day, whether you’re looking for a unique item or just want to take in the sights, sounds and tastes of summer in Painesville.”

The sights of the festival include not only the vendor displays but also special entertainment, like Dr. URawesome and his bubbles show for the kids, tours of the town by Lolly the Trolley, balloons and life-sized puppets.

“We also celebrate the talents of our youth with the Painesville School District student art exhibit,” says Barb. “We love to show off the hard work of these accomplished kids and give them a forum to share their amazing gifts.”

Something very special this year will be a one-of-a-kind canvas by local artist Amber Ariel Mills, from Ariel Inspired art studio and gallery in Painesville, depicting some aspect of the art show as it unfolds.

“This will be a very special piece by Amber,” says Barb. “She will be painting as the show happens and that work will be auctioned off at the end of the day. The subject of the painting will be a surprise. It’s just another creative activity for the day.”

Along with all of the unique and creative things to see and do, there’s plenty of food and music to be enjoyed. Food trucks, including The Bus Stop, Hunger Squad, Manna Truck and East Coast Custard will offer a variety of choices appealing to every appetite.

The live music acts will change every hour and include jazz musician Ed Michaels, acoustic artist Randall Cuomos, Hip to That jazz band, classic hits from 732 The Electric Duo and flutist Mary Ann Gamez.

“Your experience changes all day long,” says Barb. “We know that people’s tastes in food, art and music varies and this festival appeals to all.”

To get the kids’ creative juices flowing, there’s face painting and other activities to keep them occupied and engaged while visitors shop the vendors for unique items.

“All of the artists are local and being a juried show guarantees a high quality of work,” says Barb. “What’s really special this year is the variety of offerings. We have pottery, glass, paintings and drawings of every style, textiles and unique jewelry. And the best part is interacting with the artist and knowing you’re getting something truly special.”

Local sponsors of Art in the Park are Rider’s Inn, Enterprise Title, First USA Title, Pat Catan’s and Starfish Coffee.

“We so appreciate all of our sponsors and their willingness to support the arts in our city,” says Barb. “It’s part of what makes Painesville so special.”

So, whether you’re getting a jump on holiday gift giving or just want to spend a relaxing day filled with good food, music and fun, Art in the Park is the perfect place to do it all.
