With warming temps and sunnier skies, this month is traditionally the time people who like to run, hike or walk come out from hibernation.

Whether you’re a longtime runner or just starting out, it’s important to consider the benefits of building muscle when it comes to preventing injury.

According to the National Institutes of Health, “Resistance training, in addition to increasing muscular strength, promotes growth and/or increases in the strength of ligaments, joint cartilage and the connective tissue sheaths within muscle.”

Since the body absorbs more force in repetitive, single-plane activities like running, people can put themselves at a higher risk for chronic overuse injuries.

Our goal at Alloy Personal Training is to build muscle through trainer-led, small-group workouts that focus on all the body’s muscle groups. And we change the workouts to increase muscle gains and help our members achieve lasting change.

When you engage in strictly cardio activity, your calorie burn ends whenever it stops. However, when you follow strength training geared to build muscle, you increase your basal metabolic rate and keep burning additional calories long after you work out.

To make sure our members are making progress on a safe, optimal level, we do an InBody scan once they join, then follow up monthly. Give us a call or come take a studio tour to see how we can set you up for success this spring.
