Building beds for kids

Kids Thumbs Up

By Bill Streb Owner, Streb Electric

I usually talk about electrical and safety topics in this column. This month, I’d like to do something a little different and devote this space to one of our favorite charities—Sleep in Heavenly Peace of Lake/Geauga County.

The tagline of this grassroots, volunteer-run 501(c)3 charity really resonates with us: “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.” The goal is to build and deliver bunkbeds to needy families in our area. My wife and I were shocked to find out that about 3% of kids do not have a bed to sleep on. That’s unacceptable.

After we went on a bed build event at the fairgrounds a couple years ago, I wanted to step up and do more. We hosted a build here at our warehouse and were amazed by how many folks turned out to lend a hand. (Look for announcement on our Facebook page for our next build sometime this summer. No experience is necessary to volunteer. We’ll instruct you on what to do.)

The month of March we are collecting donations in the form of money, or, if you’d like, drop off new children-themed sheets, blankets, comforters or pillows for twin beds at our headquarters. When we deliver a finished bed to a family, it’s ready to be slept in.

For the past 40 years, our family-run company has stood by our ideals of treating customers like family and giving of our time, energy and resources to help others in the community. It’s the right thing to do. We hope you’ll join us.

You can mail checks made out to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, or drop off donations, to Streb Electric, 36445 Biltmore Place, Suite C, Willoughby, 44094. The service company has earned a reputation for making sure homes are safe and free from electrical hazards. Call 440-953-5819 or visit StrebElectric.com for more information.
