Believe it or not, the holiday season is upon us again. A goal we set with our clients is to simply maintain and not gain any weight this time of year.

Here are some tips for maintaining your weight through the hustle and bustle of the holiday season:

1. Eat before you go to a holiday party. Eat some nutritious food and drink plenty of water so you walk into the party feeling satisfied. You don’t want to go feeling hungry, possibly causing you to overeat bad food. This will also ensure you get some healthy nutrients in for the day, in case there aren’t nutritious options at the event.

2. Try to avoid hanging out by the food table with all the easy-to-grab temptations. If you’re standing right by the food, it will be easier to snack when you aren’t hungry. Those little handfuls of treats can add up more than we realize.

3. Remember to continue to make physical activity a priority through this busy time. You will inevitably eat and drink more calories during the holidays than you do any other time of year. Ensure that you are still burning calories through exercise. Try to get at least 250 minutes per week of exercise. Keep a running total and do what you can to hit the number, even if it means at-home workouts or walks during your lunch break.
