Just as Florida is known for its flavorful oranges and Georgia for its juicy peaches, Ohio has some of the best apple crops in the country.

Celebrating everything apple at Miles Farmers Market, you will find nearly 30 varieties of apples, which have been freshly picked in Ohio orchards, as well as Northern Spy and Twenty Ounce apples, from a small farm in New York, along with other varieties that come from the prolific apple-growing orchards in Washington.

Plus, you will find apple-inspired items in almost every aisle, from Dutch apple pies, gallons of apple cider, apple-stuffed sausages, apple and sage stuffing, and apple fritters on the weekends.

Fall Bounty of Apples and Pumpkins
“It is peak season for apple harvest in Ohio right now,” says store manager Justin Golobek. “One of our customers’ favorites, the Gold Rush, is picked through mid-November here in Ohio, and we will have them in the store through March, as long as Mother Nature cooperates. These red, blush-colored apples are tart and sweet. They are so delicious that some of our customers buy them by the case.”

Also locally grown, Honeycrisp apples are extra-large and make for a tasty pie filling.

In addition to apples, Miles Farmers Market has one of the area’s biggest displays of pumpkins and gourds. More than just your typical orange pumpkins, you will find shades of white and yellow and some with wart-like growths to add some interest. And the gourds range from white to green to orange and come in some unique shapes, like the snake and gooseneck gourds.

“Customers can take photos outside by the beautiful display of pumpkins and mums,” says Justin. “Plus, we have a fall prize basket that we will give to the customer who can guess the weight of our giant pumpkin. Stop in and check out all of our apples and fall decorations.”

Don’t forget to pick up a pie. In addition to traditional apple and pumpkin pies, the Fruits of the Forest Pie, which is filled with apple, rhubarb, strawberry, blackberry and raspberry, is a customer favorite.

Thanksgiving Dinners to Go
Whether you are cooking a large Thanksgiving feast at home for your extended family, or you just want a couple of fully cooked turkey breasts and a side dish without having to fuss, Miles Farmers Market caters to everyone.

“Leave the cooking to us this Thanksgiving,” invites Justin. “We will have fully cooked turkeys ranging in size from 10 to 22 pounds. Plus, we have all of the fixings, including traditional stuffing and homemade sausage stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans and the tastiest homemade gravy. Our chef makes the gravy from scratch using stock made with fresh turkey parts for the ultimate flavor.”

Miles Farmers Market is taking reservations now for turkey dinners to go. And for those who are cooking at home, stop in next month and get a fresh turkey. “We have fresh—never frozen—free-range turkeys that are the juiciest and most flavorful around,” says Justin.

To help you master the meal, there are printed recipes in the store as well as links to recipes online, featuring tasty side dishes like Brussels sprouts with prosciutto, apple and sausage stuffing, and pumpkin soup.

“Miles Farmers Market is a one-stop shop to make your Thanksgiving a feast to remember,” says Frankie Cangemi, the second generation Cangemi who helps run the family business. “Nobody will go home hungry with a meal from our market, and there should even be some leftovers to enjoy.”
