“We are a full-service landscape design company,” says owner Jim McCaskey. “If it’s outside your door, we’ll take care of it.”
And not only take care of it, but also create it. Jim and his team of certified landscape technicians, designers and installers provide everything from basic lawn maintenance to creating the outdoor living space of your dreams.
“Everyone wants the house where the kids, friends and family gather for parties, watch the big game, or spend lazy summer days together,” says Jim. “Instead of always looking for the perfect place to go to accommodate your crew, look no further than your own backyard.”
After working in the landscape business for over 15 years, Jim decided to take the plunge and start his own company in 2003.
“It was time to take what I had learned and pass it on while adding my personal touch,” says Jim. “This is a personal business. We are involved in people’s lives, caring for their homes. I take that very seriously, because my own family means everything to me.”
“We love to get together with our families,” says Jim. “I know what it’s like to want a place to spread out where kids and adults can enjoy the same space.”
Jim and his staff approach your project by first asking questions. How will your family use the space? Do you want to cook outdoors, swim or relax by an outdoor fire?
“Think big,” suggests Jim. “What’s your ultimate dream? We can get you there, and it doesn’t all have to happen now.”
Jim has clients where he’s added features over the years as the family’s needs change.
“The space can evolve,” says Jim. “We can start with one space, add a kitchen, a fire pit or fireplace, a television viewing area, and even a pizza oven. Think of your dream ‘staycation’ and let us take you there.”
And don’t wait until next spring to start your project. Fall is also the perfect time to get started.
“Spring is busy with graduations and other family events,” says Jim. “We’ll finish your project in the fall and you’ll be ready to host next spring.”
The idea of commitment is important to Jim and that extends to his employees, clients, vendors and the environment he works in every day.
“I treat my employees based on a mantra, ‘train them so they’re prepared to leave, treat them well so they won’t want to,’” says Jim. “My employees are always learning. I offer growth opportunities for continuing education in landscape design and more. I also want all my employees to have the time to make their child’s little league game, or even coach. Giving back to this community is a big part of what we do.”
McCaskey Landscape & Design sponsors Chardon sports teams, donates landscaping and services to charities like Red Tulip Project of Geauga, the Lake County YMCA Dream House and others.
“We are in a unique position where our donations are often living things that will remain and continue to grow,” says Jim. “We’d like to create a dream backyard for your family.”
