Over the past six months, since taking over the dental practice of retired Dr. Robert Mandel, Dr. Sanam Magrey has found herself in the middle of a whirlwind of change.

Not only has she refurbished the interior of the lobby at Dental Care of Brunswick, painting the walls deep and sedate shades of blue and cream and buying sleek black leather seating, but she is also overhauling the patient records to a paperless system, and introducing several new pieces of equipment to take the operation into the digital era.

Painless Dentistry
“Our services and atmosphere are geared toward every member of the family, from toddlers starting at one year to seniors,” she says.

“We enjoy seeing so many new young families join the practice. And the advancements in technology allow us to offer painless dentistry.”

The new equipment is geared toward increasing the precision and level of care and includes digital panoramic X-rays, new computer software, and new endodontic technology for better quality root canals.

For crowns, she only uses the most durable material, zirconia, favoring it because, “they fit better and tend to last longer than the rest.”

Dental implants have already become an integral part of this practice, she says, whether used to anchor dentures for the best fit or replacing bad teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry further allows her to improve her patients’ smiles, and she specializes in veneers and teeth whitening, too.

Both new and existing patients are giving Dr. Magrey rave reviews. Says Michelle C. of Brunswick, “When I received the letter that the new dentist had plans to increase the level of technology in the office, I was pleasantly surprised. But the nicest surprise was when we met her in person. She’s such a sweet, gentle and caring doctor, taking time to get to know us and educating us about her treatment plan.”

An Inspiring Backstory

Growing up in the war-torn city of Kashmir, skirting the Himalayan mountains of northern India, Dr. Magrey’s mother always encouraged her three daughters to study hard, dream big and succeed.

“My mother never finished high school, was married at 15, and wanted my sisters and I to accomplish more than that,” she says.

“After attending dental school in India, at age 24 I told my parents I wanted to move to America, which was unheard of at the time. Most parents in India want their daughters to stay home and get married. I’m lucky—mine didn’t.”

When she arrived in the United States, going through all the machinations of green cards and immigration, she found out she needed two more years of dental school, which she did at the University of Pennsylvania.

Upon graduation she moved to Cleveland to be near her sister, who is a rheumatologist. Her other sister is a gynecologist back in India.

Dr. Magrey lives in Avon with her husband, Kaiser, and two daughters, ages nine and 15, to whom she gives the same push to succeed as her mother before her.

“I would definitely categorize what success I’ve achieved over the past 20 years as an American dream come true,” she says.
