Erma Bombeck certainly had some strong opinions on housework and where it fit into the real scheme of things. In her time, Erma did more than anyone with her humor and grace to help us understand that family comes first and a woman’s (or a man’s) time is far better spent in other pursuits rather than cleaning house. 

That view was fine until balanced with views of people like my mother, who pounded into my head that if you are going to have nice things, you have to take care of them so they’ll stay nice.
