In an industry sometimes defined by misconceptions about plumbers and a lack of trust on the part of homeowners, one locally owned business is determined to change the perception.
“By offering expert workmanship and honest assessments, we are enhancing the appreciation of our industry,” says Eric Schroeter, who, along with his son, Keith, owns APPC Plumbing Services in Medina.
“Usually when someone calls us it is a crisis,” he says. “We bring a sense of calm and provide rapid response.”
A staple in the community for the past two decades, APPC Plumbing is a place where women and seniors feel comfortable dealing with plumbing issues.
“Our business continues to grow because homeowners appreciate that we quickly resolve their plumbing problems,” says Eric, who founded APPC Plumbing after working in a family hardware store in upstate New York and moving to Ohio.
“We know that plumbing can be somewhat confounding, so we educate homeowners.”
“We also pride ourselves on the service we provide,” states Keith, noting the company’s Better Business Bureau Gold Star Rating. “We are a brick-and-mortar business right down the street, so if there is a problem we are here.”

Sump Pumps
“Plumbing is often thought of as water supply, but just as important is water removal,” comments Eric. “Especially in the spring when there is increased ground water making your basement more susceptible to flooding.”
“A sump pump backup system is cheap insurance to keep your basement dry,” Keith says. “A backup can cost about $800, which is nominal when compared to the damage a flood can cause to a $20,000 finished basement.”
“Every basement should have a sump pump back up system, and probably an extra pump on hand,” adds Eric, noting the failure of a 49-cent switch can cost you thousands of dollars.
APPC Plumbing installs a backup sump pump system that operates on batteries, so it is not dependent on electric currents, as well as a hydraulic-driven backup system.
Sewer and Storm Drain Cleaning
Homeowners usually only call a plumber when there are problems, which often means their sewers and drains are clogged.

“We take the approach that we are not selling water heaters but are instead selling your family the hot water it needs,” says Keith. “We don’t push a certain type of heater. We explain the different features of a conventional gas water heater versus a power-vented water heater versus an electric water heater to help the customer determine which is best for his or her needs and household.”
“We want the community to see us as a place to come for answers,” adds Eric. “We don’t have any salesmen on staff, just plumbers who can answer any question.”
