Though there may not be citywide fireworks and parades this Fourth of July, you can be sure there will be plenty of backyard barbecues.

This year has been one of change, but some things will never change. Most Americans will spend the weekend barbecuing meats on the grill and savoring all-American favorites such as potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon and apple pie.

At Miles Farmers Market, the butcher cases are stocked with plenty of meat, and they have everything else you need for a delicious backyard soiree.

Fourth of July favorites—including ribs and grilling meats and watermelon, whole and cut, and much more— will be aplenty at Miles Farmers Market.

“We are known for our delicious hot dogs and hamburgers,” says Justin Golobek, Miles Farmers Market store manager. “In fact, I ship our Old Chicago-style hot dogs every week to customers who live out of state, in places such as Florida, Texas and California. Our signature hot dogs are made with all beef and have lots of flavor with a nice snap. We have been selling these hot dogs for 30 years and they have quite a following.”

Miles also features different homemade specialty burgers and sausages every week.

Two of the most popular burgers are the Frank’s Angus Steakburger, made with ground short rib meat, and the Cleveland Beer Burger, made with Great Lakes Dortmunder beer and caramelized onions.

The market also has an appreciable selection of chicken and turkey burgers and sausages.

“No good burger or hot dog is complete without a tasty bun, so that’s why we bake our own buns fresh every day in our store,” says Justin.

Miles Farmers Market also makes homemade lemonade. “We hand-squeeze lemons and mix them with other fruits to make our own lemonade sold in half-gallon bottles,” says Justin, noting there are no preservatives. “In addition to traditional lemonade, we make blends with strawberry, blackberry, raspberry and other fresh fruits.”

Just in time for the holiday weekend, you’ll also find plenty of local fruits and vegetables in the market.

Miles Farmers Market offers fruit bowls, as well as grab-and-go, four-pound containers and smaller quart containers filled with fruit assortments, cut fresh every day.

“We carry the most extensive selection of produce anywhere in the city,” says Frankie, the second generation Cangemi who helps run the family business. “A lot of our produce is picked in the morning and is on our shelves the same day. It doesn’t get any fresher than that.”

Summer Crops
“We just got our first batch of homegrown strawberries in,” notes Justin Golobek, store manager. “We feature as many locally grown fruits and vegetables as we can in the summer to support our local farmers.”

Here are Ohio crops that are in season in June and July, which you will find at the Miles Farmers Market.

  • Asparagus
  • Morel mushrooms
  • Zucchini
  • Yellow squash
  • Peas
  • Cabbage
  • Collards
  • Green beans
  • Tomatoes
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Herbs such as rosemary, thyme and basil

The market has a 36-foot wet rack overflowing with the freshest leafy vegetables, roots, lettuces and more. And throughout the season, there are 75 varieties of plums, 60 varieties of apples and 40 citrus sizes and types.

“We also offer fruit bowls, as well as grab-and-go, four-pound containers and smaller quart containers filled with a fruit assortment we cut fresh every day,” comments Justin. “We pride ourselves in providing the freshest fruit in town.”
