Wouldn’t it be reassuring to know that help is available before you actually need it?

That’s exactly the level of comfort that the staff at The Lantern Group assisted living promises residents every day.

“We always say that the time to think about assisted living is before you really need it,” says Shannon Reglus, LPN, of The Lantern of Chagrin.

“If you or a loved one is feeling overwhelmed in any way at home, it’s time to consider assisted living.”

Living at The Lantern is like coming home. The staff likes to think of The Lantern as their clients’ space and staff members are there if and when they are needed.

“This is our clients’ home,” says Shannon. “We want them to go about their daily activities, including visiting with friends and family, and have the security of knowing that help is available no matter what their needs may be.”

Shannon explains that care at The Lantern doesn’t always mean hands-on care. It can be anything from help with housekeeping, medications and other daily tasks, all the way to full nursing care including feeding, dressing and bathing.

“We find that clients who come here with higher levels of functionality tend to keep those abilities longer after they transition to assisted living,” says Shannon.

“There’s a security here that people were not experiencing on their own. Our clients feel safe and happy, which allows them to function at their highest capability longer. That’s our goal.”

And if clients, in time, do need additional help or memory care, The Lantern serves these needs in its state-of-the-art memory care unit.

“Memory care is a more secure environment for residents who need that,” says Shannon. “We are prepared to serve our clients, no matter what their needs may be.”

The Lantern provides all meals and snacks made to order, with local ingredients and several choices at every meal.

“Meals at The Lantern are served in the dining room. Room service is also available,” says Shannon.

“Our dietitians and chef work closely together to consider all tastes and dietary requirements. They pride themselves on offering a variety of meal choices and snacks that appeal to everyone.”

“The layout of The Lantern is like a small town. Each client has his or her own “home,” where studio and one-bedroom units are complete with a front porch, unique facade and mailbox,” says Shannon.

“We have a café, library, hair salon, post office and more. It’s a real neighborhood here.”

And adding to that neighborhood feel is the occasional dog or cat you may see wandering the grounds. The Lantern is pet friendly.

“This is your home,” says Shannon. “And we want you to have all of the comforts of home, including your beloved pets, all within the safety of the building.”

Along with physical and occupational therapies, a podiatrist, dentist, masseuse and doctors are all on staff at The Lantern, with many other amenities available. Transportation to shopping, appointments and other activities is available, as are private dining areas to host family and friends, and a guest suite for out-of-town visitors.

“Our clients enjoy lunch and dinner outings, fishing trips, park visits and other day trips,” says Shannon.

“The transition to assisted living is a new chapter for our clients and we are here to help them adjust to their new environment as comfortably as possible. After all, this is their home.”
