If you’re over age 65, you should take a look at your Medicare coverage options.

Not only are people living longer these days, they’re also working longer. Whether stemming from a desire to stay active and engaged, or out of financial necessity, more and more people over the age of 65 are choosing to remain in the workforce.

And while continuing to work, they’re also taking part in their employer-sponsored benefits. Some opt to stay enrolled in their employer-sponsored health care plan simply because it’s what they’ve always done. They may not have considered a move over to Medicare.

On an employer-sponsored plan, you might have a couple hundred dollars a month in premium expense and have to meet an annual deductible. It all depends on what your employer offers and which plan you’re enrolled in.

But if you go with Medicare, there are many Medicare Advantage plans with no or a low deductible or premium. Although, your Part B premium will still apply. Medicare Supplement Insurance coverage is also available to help with the costs Original Medicare doesn’t cover. And in case you’re wondering, enrolling in Medicare does not mean you have to take Social Security benefits.

The point of this story is, if you’re over age 65, you should take a look at your coverage options. The current cost of Medicare Part B is $135.50. That’s the standard premium. If you’re paying more than that and you qualify for Medicare, it’s worth taking a look at your options. And, as always, there is no charge for my guidance.
