Travel restrictions may have been lifted to most destinations, but as those of us who have already taken a road trip or two this summer have realized, travel isn’t what it used to be. Staying at hotels can be dicey at best and the same can be said for many of the restaurant and resort amenities you might be accustomed to. Many businesses are dealing with serious labor shortages and sluggish supply chains.

Rather than save and plan for your next fabulous vacation, why not invest in a relaxing oasis that’s a few steps from your back door, instead? (And will be there year after year.)

If “best-in-class,” “full-service” and “one-stop shopping” all have a nice ring to them, consider Candyapple Nursery & Landscaping your source for in-ground fiberglass pools that are as durable as they are beautiful to look at. They’ve installed hundreds of pools across northeast Ohio and can make recommendations to customers on what will fit best in their backyard. If there’s an architectural or elevation element to your yard, they can build a pool to fit perfectly within it. The pools are fabulously designed and virtually maintenance-free.

With more than 70 years of experience as a full-service landscaping design and build firm, the designers and planners at Candyapple Nursery & Landscaping have the talent, expertise and experience to complement any pool with lush and colorful backdrops.

Now is the perfect time to start planning your backyard transformation, as Candyapple is scheduling its installations for the spring of 2022. Not surprisingly, the pandemic spiked an unprecedented demand for pool installations, and with shortages in the supply chain, pool companies are having difficulty keeping up.

What’s New in Pool Design?
Looking for a little splash of five-star resort living in your own backyard? Candyapple specializes in top quality pools, both fiberglass and vinyl, that are customized to each yard and style that feature innovative styles with ultra-durability and structural strength.

Designs range from classical rectangle to free-form curves and spa-pool combinations. They also feature a safety ledge along the perimeter for less experienced swimmers to hold onto or step onto.

Seven super shimmery colors range from ocean blue to reef blue, ice silver, storm grey, volcanic black, coral blue and diamond sand.

One of the most popular design elements is the ledge bench, which runs around the interior perimeter of the pool, about 12-16 inches submerged, so people can hang out and relax, without being completely in the water. (It’s like putting a lawn chair in your pool.) This is ideal for cooling off in the water and reading a book or enjoying a cocktail. For the younger set, fun pads and splash pads provide endless recreation and step-out exits are popular with kids of all ages.

To transform your pool into an outlet for exercise, many of the styles also include the option to add jet systems for avid swimmers who want to take their resistance training up a notch.

Design is what really sets them apart from other landscape firms. They make each yard unique, with high-end plant materials and crafty placement. They can build new flowerbeds and orchestrate bloom cycles to spread the vibrant colors within a design from spring to summer and fall. They can meet any need, such as putting together deer- or pest-resistant stock, or only selecting low-maintenance materials for those who do not enjoy gardening or have a green thumb.

The creative staff can also go a step further and design landscapes that conjure natural living rooms with a wow factor, like creating a dining area under a canopy of trees. Completing the umbrella of services, they offer mulching, edging, irrigation systems, mowing, fertilizing and spring yard clean-up, as well as the installation of paver patios (including natural stone, Unilock and Overfields), ponds and water features, hot tubs, firepits, fireplaces, outdoor lighting, grills, outdoor kitchens, gazebos, pavilions, pergolas and fencing to keep your paradise private.

For those who like to do their own landscaping and annual planting, Candyapple also operates one of the largest nurseries in the area, open to the public now through Sunday, October 31.

The nursery sources stock that’s a little different than anywhere else in town. Deliveries come in two to three times per week, so it’s always changing. They offer extensive varieties of trees (maple, blue spruce, pear, weeping cherry, birch, arborvitae, Japanese maple and magnolia), shrubs, perennials, annuals, mulch, stone and hanging baskets. Partnering with Ohio growers, their high-end stock is properly acclimated to our climate and conditions, perfectly perched to thrive in Zone 5.
