Kitchens for any budget

One of the first things many homeowners consider after they receive their tax refund check is home renovation. And at the annual home and garden shows in Cleveland this past month, the renovation focus was on creating dream kitchens.
“March and April seem to be our busiest months,” says Kitchen Design Center (KDC) founder Scott Herceg. “Our customers are already extremely well-versed in kitchen design and what they want, and as soon as they see the model kitchens at the big shows, and have the extra spending money to make it happen, our showroom is bustling.”
Stunning Custom Solutions in Cabinetry
There are two cabinetry options to consider in a kitchen renovation, either replacement or refacing. This usually means making several phone calls and setting up separate meetings with different companies, as most often contractors do one or the other.

“Refacing continues to be a growing segment of our business,” Scott says.
“I think if there’s a misconception out there surrounding refacing, it’s that there aren’t as many options as there are with new cabinetry. Wrong. Within the past several years the market has expanded to meet the demand, and there are many beautiful choices now in wood, thermofoil or textured melamine. The new look comes at a fraction of the cost of cabinet replacement since only the door and drawer fronts are replaced, along with covering the existing cabinet.”

In addition to cost, he reports people are more mindful of waste and don’t feel good about throwing perfectly good cabinets into a landfill simply because they are out of style. He says refacing is also the ideal option for homeowners who have replaced their countertops or installed new flooring that they don’t want to rip out in order to install new cabinets.

Gray is the New Gray

According to the color gurus at Sherwin Williams, gray remains the hottest color in home decor, and they project it will stay that way for the next four to five years.
For kitchens, that translates into a host of cabinets and countertops in many gray tones. Current trends incorporate hints of browns and navy blues.
“Quartz has surpassed granite as the most popular countertop material,” he says. “Many of the new quartz options mimic the look of fine marble, whether it’s a classic Carrara in milky white and dove gray with tiny veining or the just-introduced Calacatta, which sports similar colors with bolder, bigger, more dramatic veins.”
