Stephanie H. had barely settled into her spacious new suite at Huntington Square Senior Apartments when she helped organize a quilting group for charity.

“It’s easy to meet people with all of the activities and things we have here,” says Stephanie, who moved into Medina’s new senior living community in early December. “People come in to speak to us, and they have a workout room and a beauty shop right in the building.”

The community opened in September.

Stephanie, who moved from southern Ohio to be closer to a son and a sister who live in Medina, says she was immediately impressed by Huntington Square’s convenient proximity to shopping and other amenities.

“You can walk almost anywhere you need to go,” she explained.

Soon after moving into Huntington Square, she and some other residents started a quilting group, which is assisted by the Little Red Quilt House.

“We’ve finished seven so far,” Stephanie reports. “We make them for different charities. We’re also going to start a project to make place mats for nursing homes.”

The roomy layout of Huntington Square’s apartments was an important selling point for Stephanie.

“I have big windows and a little patio,” she says. “I really like that. And I have a garage in the back.”

Located in a quiet, residential area of Medina, Huntington Square Senior Apartments offers a multitude of shopping and dining options close by, says David Woodrum, district manager of Clover Management, which operates Huntington Square and four other senior living communities in Northeast Ohio, with a new facility in Lorain soon to open.

While many amenities are within convenient walking distance, many of Huntington Square’s residents drive their own cars.

“This is not assisted living,” he emphasizes.

“Most of our residents are very active, but want to live in a peaceful, safe environment where they don’t have to worry about mowing the lawn or doing routine maintenance.

One reason why our rent is so affordable is because we don’t include three meals a day in our lease. Many senior communities include meals but they charge between $2,500 and $3,500 per month.

Here, you can eat where and when you want to, and two bedroom units start at around $1,000 and include all utilities. You can buy an awful lot of groceries for two thousand dollars a month, and besides, who wants to eat at the same place three times a day for the rest of their life?”

Huntington Square’s one- and two-bedroom apartments are spacious and include a stacked washer and dryer.

“Many people like to bring their dinettes and china cabinets from their house,” David says. “That’s one reason why our apartments are designed to optimize living area. They feature an open floor plan with roomy kitchens, walk-in showers, grab bars and other conveniences.”

The communities offer on-site beauty salons and fitness rooms, and have large community rooms where residents can gather for games, movies, parties and other social functions. Residents who want to host a large gathering can reserve the “family room.”

Stephanie says she loves the amenities at Huntington Square. And she loves the maintenance guy, too.

“He’s very nice,” she says.
