Spicy, yummy and totally on trend. That’s how Gerri Talevich, owner of Gerri’s Closet, arguably one of the most popular consignment shops in Northern Ohio, describes her current inventory.

“It’s a misconception that just because you’re buying second hand the styles aren’t first rate,” Geri states.

“We’re constantly combing the internet for the hottest, must-have fashions. Our consigners are women who love fashion and often embrace a trend before it hits Northern Ohio. They also cycle through their wardrobes quickly, refreshing their closets completely each season.”

So, what do those women of fashion do with all of their still-trendy goodies? They bring them to Gerri, who meticulously combs through the offerings and hand selects the best of the best. Many pieces have never been worn and sport store tags. Others may have been loved once or twice.

“We’re very picky about what we put out on the sales floor, and we don’t accept everything,” she assures. “But the deal here is, we typically only have one of each item. So if you see it, and you love it, you have to buy it—before someone else does.”

“Before the start of each season, my staff and I discuss what’s selling and are mindful of what isn’t,” she explains.

“We look at Pop Sugar and Who, What, Where to determine what looks will be the most sought after. We also consider the source. A lot of what we do goes on behind the scenes and our customers get the benefit. Our staff is comprised of fashion-conscious, creative women who stay up-to-the-minute on styles and trends. That’s why our displays are so attractive and forward thinking.”

Gerri says she and her team have a talent for helping their guests pull a look together. So if all you have is an idea of what you like, they can help to make it gel into a snappy, stylish ensemble in no time.

“We’re very service oriented,” she enthuses. “We help our shoppers not only understand what the latest trends are, but also how to wear them.”

Fall Fashion Forecast
Gerri says ponchos and gorgeous wraps are still big, and she’s got them aplenty. She also pulls in unique, one-of-a-kind items from artists sourced locally and from other parts of the country.

For example, she just brought in a collection from a Missouri-based artist that features large reclaimed crystals from vintage chandeliers, and dyed flannels sporting sayings and seasonal patches.

“I’m already on my second order,” she whispers with a smile.

Back with a vengeance are Myra Bags, recycled from tarps and tents. These attention-getting accessories feature snaps of faux fur and other delightful embellishments.

Pleather jackets and animal prints are making a strong showing for fall. Be on the lookout for faux fur jackets and vests.

During the month of October, Gerri is beefing up her sock inventory. For every pair purchased, a second pair will be donated. As a member of the Association for Resale Innovation, Gerri’s Closet will contribute to a group donation that last year totaled 4,246 pairs of socks.

Oh, and every week, Gerri’s donates bags of goods to Haven of Rest, a homeless shelter in the area. So even if a consigned item doesn’t sell, it can do some good somewhere else.
