In January, there is no shortage of quick weight loss plans, fat-busting pills and extreme exercise programs to choose from. It’s a well-known fact that many people put “losing weight” at the top of their list of New Year’s resolutions.

To help you decide which route to the promised land is best for you to travel, Dr. Frank Dachtler, of Healthy One WeightLoss, busts some of the myths surrounding taking it off, and keeping it off, for good.

Magic Pills
“There is no such thing as a magic pill to help you lose weight,” Dr. Frank says.

“Supplements you find online or late-night TV promising to blast away fat are nothing more than snake oil. The people you see in those before and after photos have done much more than take a supplement. Often their body changes are a result of intense exercise and strict diet.”

Those pills, he says, are just another way for someone to cash in—and they could potentially be harmful.

“Hundreds of products have been taken off the market after they’ve been determined to cause significant health issues. Don’t waste your money,” he says.

“Medications from a doctor can assist in weight loss, but when you stop taking the pills you usually put the weight back on,” he adds. “If long-term weight loss is your goal, medications won’t work.”

Fad Exercise Equipment
Every year, a new piece of fad exercise equipment takes the diet world by storm, promising to crunch away, twist away or flex away the pounds.

“I’m a huge believer in exercise, but that’s not what you do to lose weight,” Dr. Frank explains. “If you don’t properly address your diet, no amount of exercise in the world is going to help you shed pounds—and you could end up gaining weight.”

“As part of the Healthy One WeightLoss program, we encourage exercise—but more is not necessarily better,” he says.

“We’ll teach you which exercises can maximize your results and how to combine exercise with the right kind of diet.”

Prepared Food Programs
The Healthy One WeightLoss program is centered around fresh, grocery store foods.

“Buying food on a meal plan is impractical and can get expensive,” he says. “Typically you’re starving, and you aren’t taught how to eat in everyday life. Plus, those packaged foods have been sitting on a shelf for weeks, or even months.”

Support Groups
Emotional support and information is important to any weight loss program, but most centers offer a one-size-fits-all plan and there is no medical oversight.

The Healthy One WeightLoss program includes support from a doctor and an individualized plan based on your current health.

Surgery
“Even people who are candidates for surgery are referred to a weight loss program prior to undergoing the procedure,” Dr. Frank explains.

“And, wouldn’t you want to try a different and safe alternative, first? Our plan can help you to change your habits so dramatically you may not even need surgery.”

Healthy One WeightLoss
With the Healthy One WeightLoss program, the emphasis is on educating people to rethink the way they eat, including how to combine foods for maximum benefit.

You’ll enjoy support from a doctor, and you’ll be eating properly so you’ll never feel deprived. You’ll learn the right types of exercise to do to maximize your results, and you’ll take minimal supplementation.

The decision to make a change is yours. That’s the first step, Dr. Frank says. Once you’re committed to change and are accepted into the program, you can expect to lose 20-40 pounds in the first six to eight weeks—guaranteed.
