I want to impact my patients’ lives the same way that my hearing aid specialists have impacted mine,” Kayla Rogers says, explaining why she is so passionate about her work at Brookway Hearing Center.

Kayla’s life has been profoundly impacted after receiving cochlear implants. The implants have improved the limited hearing she has experienced since she was a child.

Kayla earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from The University of Akron and is licensed by the State of Ohio.

After paying forward the gift of enhanced hearing for two years as a licensed hearing aid specialist at Brookway Hearing’s Strongsville office, Kayla is now serving the Twinsburg community at Brookway’s second location—formerly known as Discover Hearing Solutions.

The name on the sign has changed, but the caring, expert service Discover Hearing has always provided will remain the same, reassures Monica Henkel, a licensed hearing aid specialist and owner of Discover Hearing. That’s because she has sold the hearing center to her brother and mentor, Robert Pavlik Jr., a board-certified hearing instrument specialist and audioprosthologist, and owner of Brookway.

“We’re keeping it in the family,” Monica smiles.

Like Kayla, Monica learned the business by working with Robert in Strongsville before she opened Discover Hearing in her hometown of Twinsburg in 2014.

“Robert brought me along in the business and encouraged me to get my board certification because he wanted everybody in his office to be as knowledgeable as possible,” she says. “When I wanted to move closer to home, he encouraged me to start my own hearing center. He’s the one who taught me everything, so I know my clients are in the most capable hands possible.”

Robert says Kayla’s history of hearing limitations give her a unique perspective in working with clients.

“Kayla has a personal history with hearing loss, and she is able to relate to people who have various degrees of difficulties,” he says.

Kayla says helping clients to improve their lives through better hearing has fulfilled a lifelong dream.

“I am looking forward to meeting and working with a new group of clients here in Twinsburg,” she says.

Brookway, Robert emphasizes, is not just a hearing aid dispenser.

“You can buy hearing aids on-line if you really want to,” he says. “But what we offer is a full treatment plan. That ongoing service is what makes us different from most other hearing centers.”

When you introduce new hearing aids, the sound signals that come in are different and your brain has to learn how to adjust, Robert explains.

“What we concentrate on at Brookway is retraining your brain to process sound so you can understand better in the environment you’re in,” he says. “That’s why we schedule a lot of follow-up visits after your fitting to fine tune your hearing aids and monitor how your brain is adapting to it. All of the visits are included in the treatment plan of your choosing.”

Robert says that he, Kayla and Monica each became hearing specialists for a common reason: To improve people’s lives by improving their ability not just to hear sounds, but also to understand what they’re listening to.

“We all share the same philosophy,” Monica says. “That’s why this is such a seamless transition.”
