High school graduates can remain on their parents’ health insurance policies until age 26. But what if while away at college your child has an accident?

Once you become a parent, your focus shifts away from yourself and on to the wants, needs and safety of your child. We want to protect them, now and into the future.

With May signifying the end of the school year, summer vacations and graduations mean our children are preparing to enter the next phase of their lives. High school graduates can remain on their parents’ health insurance policies until age 26. But what if while away at college your child has an accident?

HealthMarkets Insurance Agency offers an accident protection policy that covers things like emergency room visits and sporting accidents, so the financial impact of the unexpected is minimized.

It pays for things that go beyond doctor and hospital charges. Children typically don’t have to worry about losing their income if they get hurt, but you do. You still need to be able to pay your mortgage. And if you have to miss work to care for your child, that loss of income needs to be accounted for.

Accident protection gives you options so you don’t have to base every decision on what’s in your checking account.

For college students pursuing advanced degrees, a parent must often co-sign for a student loan. So if your child gets a student loan and something happens to him or her, you’re on the hook to pay back the money. A life insurance policy to provide protection is a terrific option. You can use the funds to pay back the student loan.

If protecting your child once he or she leaves the safety of the nest is important to you, I invite you to give me a call. As always, my guidance is free.
