Are you ready to shake, shiver and chatter? After this summer’s stretch of record-high temperatures, cold weather is probably not on your radar, yet. But S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal, Inc. is already prepping for the temperature plunge so you won’t be left in the cold.

“With the unpredictable weather in Northeast Ohio, the only thing you can be sure of is that there is no escaping the cold,” says Mark Staron II, who is the second “S” in S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal, a company his parents, Mark Sr. and Gayle, founded in 1989.

“And it seems like in Northeast Ohio we only have two seasons—summer and winter—so there is not much time between to get prepared for the temperature swing.”

To get you prepared, this locally owned company services, repairs and installs all types of heating and cooling systems, including gas, electric, boiler and steam, as well as tank and tankless water heaters.

Cleaning and Checking your Furnace
“The phone rings off the hook those first couple weeks in September when people turn on their furnace for the first time and it doesn’t work,” says Mark.

“But even if it seems to be working fine, the real question to ask is, is it operating at peak efficiency?”

With a dedicated staff of certified tune-up technicians, S&S recommends that homeowners get a precision tune-up every fall and spring.

From servicing massive furnace units, such as this one in an apartment building on Lakewood’s Gold Coast, to cleaning and checking a homeowner’s units, the S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal, Inc. service technicians are highly skilled.

“Think of a heating and cooling tune-up as if it were an oil change for your home,” says Mark. “You’d never think of going without one for your car or it wouldn’t operate properly. And the same is true for your home.”

“This is a thorough, two-hour service with a 30-plus item checklist,” he explains. “We don’t just look over your unit. We tune, clean, lubricate and make any necessary adjustments to keep your unit running at peak efficiency.”

“It is important to note that many of the manufacturer’s warranties are void if the homeowner does not do regular maintenance,” he adds.

Staying Warm at Home and Work
“Everyone waits until it gets really cold outside to start thinking about their furnace,” says Mark. “But now is the ideal time to start shopping for a new furnace if you want to upgrade.

“We help homeowners and business owners make an informed purchase by helping them sort through the maze of HVAC equipment on the market.”

“In addition to our best-selling Trane line, we now offer the Amana brand,” he says. “The manufacturer offers a good warranty that goes above and beyond. For instance, if your furnace’s heat exchanger cracks, Amana will replace your entire unit and not just replace the heat exchanger.”

More than just helping you stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, S&S Heating & Cooling helps you save money by offering high-efficiency products and services to help reduce energy consumption—which is especially important for large commercial buildings since those bills can quickly escalate.

“We offer commercial leasing to make rooftop units more affordable for small businesses,” says Mark, noting that you pay a monthly fee and then at the end of the lease buy the unit outright for one dollar.

S&S Heating & Cooling also has a mobile metal shop, in which the installers can design and fabricate ductwork from a precision installation trailer that is driven to the jobsite.

Not many heating and cooling companies boast the ability to custom design and build their own ductwork through sheet metal fabrication. “We can build precision fittings and complex ductwork for commercial projects of all sizes,” says Mark.

Adding High-Tech Touches
Another consideration when you close the windows heading into fall is indoor air quality.

“Homes and offices are being built tighter than ever, and though that’s great for keeping heated or cooled air within the home, it also seals in allergens, such as dust mites in the carpeting, and mold,” Mark explains.

S&S can install Google Nest smart home devices to control your thermostat, locks and security system. And you get an additional two-year warranty when installed by a professional contractor.

S&S can install a Trane CleanEffects whole-house air filtration unit to reduce contaminants, deodorize and purify the air to get rid of allergens, germs and odors.

The company also can install Google Nest smart home devices to control your thermostat, locks and security system. And you get an additional two-year warranty when installed by a professional contractor.

“With all of the high-tech touches nowadays, we still take pride in old-fashioned customer service,” comments Mark. “We always do right by our customers and it shows in our Google 5-Star reviews.”
