Apex Dermatology has grown to become an area leader in medical, surgical and aesthetic dermatology by helping patients feel good in their own skin.

For some people, this means clearing up their acne and psoriasis, or diminishing wrinkles and scars. For others, it means making them cancer free.

“We transform people’s lives through our work,” says Apex founder Dr. Jorge Garcia-Zuazaga. “Our culture is unique because we have drawn caring individuals into the practice who are driven by one common purpose: to empower patients through healthy skin.”

And the staff is on the grow, as this month Dr. Garcia welcomes Dr. Nely Aldrich to the team, who will be seeing patients in the Hudson office.

Board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Aldrich practices general dermatology for both adults and children. She treats various conditions, including acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, skin cancer and many others. During her residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, she published research on rosacea in twins, examining what predisposes people to this prevalent skin condition, such as sun, smoking, BMI and other environmental factors.

“There are a lot of skin conditions that we do not know the cause of. All we can do is treat them,” says Dr. Aldrich. “But I like to look deeper and try to find out more.”

Born in Cuba and raised in Toledo, Dr. Aldrich is fluent in both English and Spanish. The mother of a nine-month-old daughter, she exudes a caring, nurturing demeanor with her patients.

A very personable physician, Dr. Aldrich encourages two-way conversation instead of just talking to her patients, which puts them at ease—even when there is a skin cancer diagnosis.

“I diagnose skin cancer every single day, but I educate my patients on the different types of skin cancers and reassure them that basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are very treatable,” she says.

“During every mole check, I also stress the importance of practicing safe sun and being aware of the ABCDEs of melanoma.”

Dr. Aldrich tells her patients to look for asymmetry, borders with jagged or notched edges, spots with multiple colors, diameter that exceeds the size of a pencil eraser and any areas that are evolving—either by getting larger, bleeding, crusting, itching, shrinking or becoming bumpy.

“We take pride in our SPOTCheck program that guarantees an appointment within 72 hours for any patient with a suspicious lesion,” says Dr. Garcia, who served with distinction as a U.S. Marines flight surgeon prior to relocating to Cleveland for his dermatology residency. He also earned an MBA from Case Weatherhead School of Management and is fellowship-trained in Mohs surgery for skin cancers.

“It is part of our commitment to partnering with patients to deliver exceptional and compassionate care.”
