One of the biggest reasons seniors don’t want to move to a senior care facility is they don’t want to abandon all the comforts of home.

Recognizing this, when Paul and Penny Radvansky opened Amelia Grace Assisted Living in 1996, they chose to established a family friendly, more personalized, smaller facility.

The charming red-brick home sits on a wooded three-acre lot set back off a scenic road in Chesterland. At 4,800 square feet, residents enjoy the welcoming décor, private suites, home-cooked meals savored around the spacious dining table and relaxing on the outdoor veranda.

When Paul and Penny Radvansky opened Amelia Grace Assisted Living in 1996, they chose to established a family friendly, more personalized, smaller facility.

The private suites are furnished and homey, with a capacity for up to 16 residents. Every room has a lovely view of the surrounding woods.

Hands-On Ownership
“We offer all of the amenities of a large facility, but in a small-scale, locally owned format and our residents and their families love it,” says Paul. “We are hands on owners that get to know our residents and their needs very well and their families on a first name basis.”

He says they pride themselves on responsive communication, and families know they can reach out to them at any time to talk about how their mom or dad is doing.

Penny shares personal experiences of her parents who both had dementia and/or physical challenges with families to help educate them and understand their journeys.

“We go out of our way to forge a smooth transition for people,” she says. “Moving into a new place can be overwhelming emotionally and financially, but not here. It was important to us to create a model of private-pay care that is comfortable, caring, secure, and a fraction of the cost of a bigger facility.”

In addition to security, our staff provides 24-hour care and assistance with daily needs like bathing, grooming, laundry, meals and assistance with medications. Penny taps into more than 30 years in nursing to help with healthcare monitoring, medications and overseeing the healthy and delicious meal-planning. She also coordinates bringing health care providers, as well as hospice care, into the home.

Staying Engaged, Independent

“Our goal is to keep people as independent as possible for as long as possible,” she adds. “To provide a host of fun daily activities such as music, games, bingo, and arts and crafts. We take little trips to the senior center and visit nearby parks. Faith is important, too, and we coordinate to bring in local denominations of faith to support our residents.”

Along with their longstanding and compassionate staff, Paul and Penny are happy to be able to offer people a welcoming place to stay engaged and independent that still feels like home.
