The guests are the focus of the event—not the DJs.

Beach Boyz Entertainment has become the DJ of choice for all the hottest gigs in Northeast Ohio.

With today’s advanced digital technology, anybody can be a “DJ.” Think about it. With an iPod and a decent set of speakers, you can turn Cousin Josh loose in ripped jeans and a tie to spin the tunes at the once-in-a-lifetime wedding reception you’ve been planning for two years. And while you’re at it, Aunt Lucy can be in charge of microwaving the frozen Salisbury steak patties and mashed potatoes you’ll be serving for dinner.

“Anybody can be a DJ,” agrees Rich Siebert, owner of Beach Boyz Entertainment, a top DJ service in Akron, Cleveland and Canton for the past 25 years. “But that doesn’t mean they can be a good DJ.”

That’s because the DJ at a wedding or other event does more than just play music. The DJ sets the tone and the pace for the entire event.

“Some people put more thought into dinner than entertainment,” Rich says. “But dinner lasts an hour and the entertainment goes on for five hours, so it had better be exceptional.”

That’s why Beach Boyz Entertainment has been entrusted to handle corporate events for companies like Goodyear, Coca-Cola and Southwest Airlines and parties for basketball superstar LeBron James.

“Of all the events we do, wedding receptions are usually the most demanding, but with our experience they are a piece of cake,” Rich reveals. “The DJ can make or break the reception. We need to be able to manage the flow of the evening while making sure the bride and groom remain the focus of attention—not us. We have so many different ages of people we need to keep happy. We also have to consider volume control. If it’s too loud people can’t talk. If it’s too soft people may not dance. There is a lot more involved than just playing songs.”

Quick: What are the five can’t-miss slow songs guaranteed to fill the dance floor? I don’t know. But Rich and the other DJs do. With a schedule of around 600 weddings a year, Beach Boyz, with its staff of 25 DJs, has seen it all.

“We are a classy, top-flight, professional service focused on what the customer wants,” Rich promises. “We show up early, emcee the entire event and do exactly what we say we’re going to do. A lot of DJs try to steal the show. We know that the event is not about us; it’s about you and your guests. That’s why we check with the bride and groom several times throughout the evening. Once it’s all over you can’t redo it, so we want to make sure we get it right.”

Rich says Beach Boyz DJs will never complain, make excuses, use foul language, drink alcohol, smoke, play songs you don’t want or have a bad attitude. If you’ve seen any of the above from an entertainment service, you know how that behavior can ruin an event.

Beach Boyz DJs go through a rigorous training program that includes shadowing experienced mentors.

“We start the new guys off by doing birthdays and small corporate parties,” Rich explains. “When they think they are ready to do a wedding, they have to do a simulated wedding for me in the office before they can do a real one on their own. I think our training program is one of the things that sets us above the other services in the area.”

And that’s one of the reasons Beach Boyz has been voted one of the best DJ services on the Knot and Fox 8’s Hot List for 2008.

When it comes to weddings, Beach Boyz offers more than just music.

“We have three professional wedding planners on staff and we’re here to work with you,” Rich says. “The bride and groom have a thousand decisions to make before the wedding and are usually pretty stressed out when they come in to talk to us. We help alleviate that stress. After all, this is supposed to be the happiest day of their lives.”

Along with DJ services, Beach Boyz also offers videography services. The most popular product is a professional 30- to 40-minute multi-angle Hollywood quality wedding DVD with honeymoon photos at the end.

“This is not something Uncle Harry is going to make for you,” Rich says while viewing a sample production on a flat screen on the wall of his office. “This year we’re upgrading to high definition cameras, so the production is going to be even more stunning.”

Along with their DJ and videography services, Beach Boyz offers wedding invitations, casino parties and game shows.

“Casino Nights are the hottest thing going,” Rich says. “For a birthday party or another big event, instead of just music, why not bring in some tables and have lots of fun?”

At a recent Casino Nights fundraiser for a social services agency, Beach Boyz helped raise $50,000.
Casino Nights games include craps, black jack, roulette, slots, bingo and cards games.

“People have a blast,” Rich says. “It’s the fun of Las Vegas brought to you.”

Game show parties also are a hoot, he says. They let your guests play games like “Jeopardy,” “Family Feud” or “Deal or No Deal” in simulated studios that look just like they do on TV.

“The cool thing is we can customize the questions to personalize the event for you and your guests,” Rich says.
“We can really have a lot of fun.”

Fun is what a Beach Boyz party is all about. The company has an entire showroom full of props to be used at birthday parties, anniversary parties and block parties.

“I truly love my job,” Rich says. “Every night’s a party.”

Every Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m., Beach Boyz Entertainment hosts an open house at its office at 2364 Second Street in Cuyahoga Falls. You’re invited to stop in to meet the entertainers and professional party planners to see how Beach Boyz can dazzle the guests at your wedding, party or corporate event. The open houses offer video of recent events and demos of event lighting. For more information, you can call 330-668-9611, or visit www.BeachBoyzEntertainment.com.
