A s some of the winter snow in the area begins to melt, many in the area will take to the streets by walking, running, and even bicycling. But two local businesses are determined to keep the fun indoors.

Century Cycles is teaming up with the Winking Lizard for an indoor bicycling event to benefit the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association’s “Trails Forever” Legacy Fund. On Wednesday, February 10, the last “Rock and Roll Trainer Night Rides” will be held at the Winking Lizard, in Peninsula, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $2 for a two-minute ride, with all proceeds benefiting the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association’s Trails Forever fund.

Participants will ride a Raleigh Special Cruiser bike on a Kinetic rock and roll bicycle trainer for two minutes in two person heats. Distance and wattage will be measured. All skill levels are welcome.

The Raleigh Specials were selected to level the playing field (no one is allowed to bring his or her own bike). Sponsors are providing nightly prizes. Plus, every participant gets entered to win one of the two Raleigh Special bicycles—one men’s and one women’s—which will be awarded at the end of the four-week event.
Rock and Roll Trainer Night Rides are sponsored by Century Cycles, Raleigh Bicycles, Kinetic, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, and the Winking Lizard.

For more information, call Century Cycles’ Peninsula store, at 330-657-2209, or go to www.centurycycles.com/to/rockandroll. Century Cycles also has a location in Rocky River, at 19955 Detroit Road.

Bill and Arlene Hallock, of Westlake, held their annual holiday party on Saturday, December 26. As always, the food was wonderful. Guests brought lavish desserts, one outdoing the other. Daughter Whitney was home from her promotion/marketing gig at Code Pink, in Los Angeles.

The Hallocks pulled out all the stops this year and even included live music in the mix. Arlene’s college friends, now known as the Elderly Brothers, livened up the family room for several sets.

Some old friends in attendance were: Marita and Ron Kontur, of Strongsville; Russ and Linda Molnar, Steve and Denise Coulter, of Rocky River; Virginia and Dave Thurley, of Brunswick; Marge and Phil Petruccelli, of Fairview Park; Nancy and Joe Tomek, of Avon; Bill Livingston, who is one of Two Men and Some Tools, of Westlake.

Whitney’s friends, always a delight, included: Myra Dvoroznak, an intervention specialist at St. Mary’s Elementary school, in Avon; Shelby Dennstedt, of North Olmsted, looking for somewhere to hang her fresh masters degree; Julie Miller, also of North Olmsted; Megan Ansberry, of Strongsville, who is now teaching in Raleigh, North Carolina; Loren Seafert, Teach for America, in Phoenix, Arizona; Kelly Glasenapp, and Katie Nowak, who is in the accelerated nursing program at Cleveland State University.
