Sometimes bands that play the Beachland have a larger following than what their venue can hold.

If you missed the sold out Wilco show a few weeks ago in Lakewood, it was a phenomenal performance. The band just finished a historic five-night set in their native Chicago, which included every song they ever recorded.

Although the Grammy Awards gave the nod to Herbie Hancock for Album of The Year with River: The Joni Letters, revisiting Sky Blue Sky reminded me of what a brilliant album Wilco’s frontman Jeff Tweedy created.

Some other upcoming shows are booked for this area that I want to give you a heads up on to purchase ducats before they’re gone.

Shelby Lynne will bring her fantastic Just a Little Lovin’ tribute to the Dusty Springfield songbook March 30th to the intimate Beachland Ballroom. For those of you that read my column on Ms. Lynne, imagine being no farther than 40 feet from the stage and hearing her soulful voice fill up the room. That, my friends, is the Beachland experience.

Other upcoming shows include Dale Watson & His Lonestars. I saw Watson perform his Texas twang with a rich tenor voice on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry last year and look forward to his show on April 10th. The Avett Brothers recently sold out their Kent Stage performance and will be coming back to the Beachland on May 18th. The Avett Brothers have garnered many Americana music awards and have a unique sound with old time folk and bluegrass instrumentation, Beatlesque harmonies, and a bit of some punk roots. Does that arouse your curiosity?

Sometimes bands that play the Beachland have a larger following than what their venue can hold. You may not recognize a group called The Swell Season, but the band features Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova from the movie Once. The Beachland is presenting the Oscar-winning singer/songwriters at The Allen Theatre on May 11th.

The Beachland Ballroom located at 15711 Waterloo Rd. near I-90 and East 152nd St. in Cleveland. Visit www.beachlandballroom.com for the full schedule and purchasing advance tickets.
