      Who has the ugliest
      of them all?

Ugly Yard Contestants

Ugly Lawn #1

We must have the ugliest lawn in Valley City -
I don't even call it a lawn - it is more just mud.
We have tried many attempts to plant seed but
it just will not grow even after hours & hours of
care & watering it is still just mud.
It is very sad looking, don't you think?!
There are really only small clumps of grass!

Ugly Yard #2

I am confident that I have the most pathetic
yard around. We have patches of missing grass, crabgrass, un-level potholes and many areas
of pure dirt/mud.
P.S. My neighbors definitely endorse this message!

Ugly Yard #3

We purchased our home a year ago, and the
former owners had cut down a huge pine tree,
but left the roots, which are on the surface.
The whole area is real lumpy, has gravel
throughout, and just weeds grow there.
It's really hard to even run the lawn mower
over the area, because of the roots, bumps,
stones, weeds, etc. There is another strip
that has the same kind of problem that leads
up to the house. This is only the front yard,
which is our main concern because of the
curb appeal, but the back is also bad.

Ugly Lawn #4

This is what happened after only having one dog.
She loves to do what we call the crazy run and
she runs around in a circle and back and forth
from back of the house through the whole yard.
We thought it was cute at the beginning but now
its sad. We need help. we are the proud owners
of the dog Mya. Don't get me wrong we love
her alot, but we love a nice lawn and would
love to have it back.

The culprit!

Ugly Lawn #5

This is my awful lawn in need of some serious help.

Ugly Lawn #6

My husband and I bought our first home,
a fixer-upper, 3 years ago. From what we understand it had been
the neighborhood
eye sore for many years. They were thrilled
that we were going to renovate it. One of
the
first things we did was plant a new
lawn and do a little landscaping. It produced
a nice looking lawn. Until I got a hold of it
that is! I wanted to get rid of a few weeds
and decided to use Round Up throughout
the whole lawn and a little for the neighbors
lawn too. Well, as you can see our
beautiful new lawn is no more. Our home
is still a negative topic of conversation
around the neighborhood. We want to live
up to the standard that Melbourne Avenue expects! We need help!

Ugly Lawn #7

We never win anything, but when we saw this contest, we are confident we will win this one because our lawn is the most hideous of all! As you can see from the photos, do not mistake the 'greeen-ness" for supple, green grass. No! That is Moss! Our entire backyard is covered with moss and needs TLC emergency rescue treatment badly! It also has major drainage issues when it rains. There are all sorts of patchy muddy areas, grubbs, and last but not least moles have decided to call it home! Please vote for us as our lawn needs your help!!!

Ugly Lawn #8

I think this is pretty ugly and treatable also!

Ugly Yard #9

Our yard is a mess
The grass just won't grow.
It's casing us stress,
I'm telling you so!

We have two young kids and I run a daycare
but our grass is not fit for playing, romping or fun.
We need it nicer for the children who play here,
But my husband works hard and can't get it done.

We try to take our ugly yard in stride,
Our house is a piece of Medina's past
but the amount work needed inside
Forced us to put the yard last.

Please help us Mimi to get the work done,
so our children can frolick in the warm summer sun!

Ugly Lawn #10

My husband and I moved to Medina from downtown Chicago when I found out I was pregnant. We opted to move to this awesome community because we wanted our children to have all of the things that a big city could not provide: good public schools, safe neighborhoods, a yard to play in. When we bought our home here in Medina last fall we got all of those things EXCEPT the yard. When we moved into our home a summers worth of neglect had taken its toll on our yard. It is a mess. It is bare in spots, brown in others and full of weeds in other parts. This picture of coarse can not show the entire mess. This is the front yard, the backyard is just as bad. We are really embarrased by it! We have tried to fix it, but don't know where to begin it is such a disaster. PLEASE HELP US!

Ugly Lawn #11

After the snow melted, my husband and I noticed that our yard was just about completely washed away!!! Last year we planted all new grass in
the backyard after removing all of the crab grass.

Ugly Lawn #12

By the looks of my lawn, you can say I practice organic lawn care. The grubs eat my grass then the moles come to aerate my lawn while digging it up to eat the grubs. Please help my lawn.

Ugly Lawn #13

As you can see we are the proud recipients of the water runoff from our neighboring condos large parking area. The city of Stow refuses to do anything about citing natural water runoff area in each property. The condos redid their parking area drains in front of their garages routing the water through a 4" pipe to my backyard instead of routing the water to the street. My wife hates the yard and she's on me constantly to do something. We may have to resort to rocks.

Ugly Lawn #14

Here is a picture of our UGLY lawn. As you can see, it would appear we are raising horses!! We are not, just a wonderful lab that loves to chase balls. We used to have one of the best lawns on our block, but now all we have are ruts and plenty of mud! Our poor yard needs some TLC. Help!

Ugly Lawn #15

Please Help!!!
Details: Backyard lawn--UGLY!!!

Ugly Lawn #16

As you can see our lawn is a real mess. We really need help!!!

Ugly Lawn #17

We paid to have our yard regraded and seeded last year. Unfortunately a lot of the seed did not grow and we are left with a very patchy undesirable lawn. We tried fertilizing and reseeding ourselves and with no luck you will see from the photos what we have to work with. I think we could really use some professional advise! Please Help! :)

Ugly Lawn #18

I saw your ad for the ugliest lawn contest and I knew right away I needed to enter. Our lawn is horrible - the ugliest I've ever had! Every year it looks worse and worse, and I do not know what to do with it. We have bald spots everywhere and it is loaded with moss and weeds of all types. The grass just grows in patches, if it grows at all. The green you see? - Well, that's probably the weeds and moss, not the grass. I do believe that somehow there is hope, but I'm afraid that it could cost a fortune to have the beautiful lawn I've always wanted. Winning this contest would be a dream come true. I would love to have a lawn that I can be proud of.

Ugly Lawn #19

My job has me traveling at least 60% of my time. When I am home, I have 3 wonderful boys and a fantastic wife I spend my time with. Unfortunately the lawn has taken a back seat. Going into the third year of neglect has highlighted the extent of the collective damage. Even worse, I live in a neighborhood where John Deere is revered like a deity. I fear if the trend is not reversed this year, the damage may become irreparable. I dread the thought of taking time away from my family to "keep up with the Jones's", but I fear I may have little alternative. Winning this contest would allow me to save my lawn without sacrificing any of the precious family time I so adore.

Ugly Lawn #20

I have a very ugly back yard.  I have beautiful flowers planted clear across the back yard but the grass or lack of it is an eyesore.  I am at a loss as what to do with it.  On one side I took up an old brick patio and the rest is either completely bare in spots or covered with weeds. It is a big back yard with a lake and on five acres.

Any help you might provide would be appreciated.

Ugly Lawn #21

Oh how she crys at night because she has no grass on her, how she yearns to be evened out green and rich instead of brown and dry. Please help my dear old yard to become young and healthy like I know she can be.

Ugly Lawn #22

You wanted sad details...you got them.?

We are a family of 6. We bought this home from my grandparents, who are still surviving but needed less house and lawn. We love our home and the memories, but have not been able to invite gram and gramp over for fear of their reaction to the destruction of a once beautiful yard!  We have some beautiful lawns in our neighborhood and want to be one of them.? We have the lawn furniniture coming and want to have the family over in a peacful, and manicured environment!

Ugly Lawn #23

Here is a picture of my ugly lawn. It is in desperate need of help! Most of the green you see is actually moss - every year it takes over my yard and smothers the little grass that does appear in the spring. Hopefully, your avid readers will feel pity for my yard and vote it THE
Ugliest Yard!

Ugly Lawn #24

I am submitting my yard as the ugliest lawn ever. It needs serious help. I have tried everything and I think it is now beyond my green thumb. As you can see from the photos, my flower beds look great, but the lawn, well it is truly the ugliest lawn ever. Please pick me....

WINNER!!!!!! Ugly Lawn #25

I moved into my home last September. As a first time homeowner and someone without a green thumb, was excited to see beautiful
landscaping that wouldn't require much upkeep from me. I did, however, fail to notice that my "green" lawn was more moss than grass. Now spring has come and the moss is brown and the lawn is, once again, growing uneven in height (and color) due to my mix of moss and grass. Please help!

Ugly Lawn #26

The gravelike spot is where I had a little work done on the sewage pipes last fall. My neighbors yard is typically full of what my daughter calls "blow flowers" will soon take over this patch of dirt! Also, I have patches of grass and weeds that have been taken over by the blow flowers 07' fallout. A battle I fought and lost last summer.... Please help me in winning this contest because I would love for my 5 year old to be able to play in the grass and not the dirt.

Ugly Lawn #27

It would be great to win this contest, my lawn could really use it.

Ugly Lawn #28

This is our lawn it looks so bad. I was once told that we had grubs, so I treated it and it still comes back looking like this again?? I don't know what to do to get it in shape. I think if I could get it to where it should be I could maintain it. It's just how to get it there is a mystery to me. Please help my lawn look like it should!!!

Ugly Lawn #29

We would like to enter our yard for your Ugliest Lawn Contest. We would love to be the "Lucky reader" and our "outdoor eye sore of a yard" is long overdue professional help.  Westfield Center is known for its manicured and sculptured lawns and Golf Club pedicured greens. Well then again, until you reach our yard. The grass is filled with broad leaf grass, bright yellow dandy lions, purple, yellow and white flowers, our 8 year old calls the garden in the grass. The yard is flat across the front and has an incline slope down the back, so much potential and so in need of your professional help. The yard is bordered by flower beds that have become overgrown and are in need of TLC. You can call our yard "ugly" if you wish, I'm sure all our neighbors would probably call it that and probably something else that wouldn't be allowed in print. WE CALL IT A
CHALLENGE! If you are up to the Challenge, we want you to vote for our yard and let's see how fast Advanced Quality Lawn Care Services can transform our yard into the yard of our DREAMS and something to be proud of when the Fourth of July Parade lines up down the street across the front of the yard.

Ugly Lawn #30

We live in a condo association, but the president will not do anything about the yard, and has stated that it is our responsibility to get the grass to grow. Please help us! We need it!

Ugly Lawn #31

Here is a picture of the worst part of my lawn. We have bare patches, dandelions and other weeds and we also get grubs from time to time.

Ugly Lawn #32

While we live in "Fairlawn," our lawn is anything but "fair." It is suffering from a couple of years of neglect. The thatch so thick that the moles have been able to dig a whole city just below the surface. And our friendly critters have a tremendous stock pile of grubs to eat. The toughest part for them is digging into the concrete-like dirt to get at the grubs. There are a few spots where the moles have dug four lane interstate roads just under the surface. We find them by tripping into them. We need help!

Ugly Lawn #33

I am a first time homeowner and as most of you can relate, the work is neverending with my 'fixer-upper' home. Among all the expenses from the leaky pipes to malfunctioning toilets and backed up septic tank, the landscape has taken a back seat to these nightmares. Now that I can no longer count on the Cleveland snow to hide my disaster, my lawn has become the punch line to many jokes among my family and friends.? I desperately need your help and professional advice to reveal the beauty that I know exists beneath the current eyesore. I would be proud to be labeled the 'ugliest lawn' and with your help transform my lawn into a beautiful, welcoming gathering spot for my loved ones to spend many wonderful cookouts this summer. All my lawn needs is a little TLC to begin with, and I know I can give it the attention and maintenance it deserves to keep it beautiful for years to come. Please vote for me so I don't have to be an embarrassment to my neighbors anymore!? HELP!!!

Ugly Lawn #34

Our lawn is just plain ugly. It seems like every time I treat the lawn it grows more ugly. We have huge patches where the grass decided to leave us and when that happened it was great for our grandkids because they had another place to play in the mud when it rained. Talk about weeds! Why does it seem like every time I put the weed killer down, the weeds spread more and they seem to get bigger. We have numerous bare spots, dirt that is piling up probably from some type of small rodent and roots of our trees that are sticking up out of the ground because the grass left us long ago.So please vote for us, because we really do need some help. If not for us, then do it for the lawn.

Ugly Lawn #35

Please help us. Our lawn is so ugly. It's very depressing to pull into the driveway after a long hard day of work; our lawn is just not welcoming. Our children keep asking for a nice lawn to sit, relax and play on. We tried to
re-seed and fix up the lawn last year but our efforts were unsuccessful. We need professional help. A lush green lawn would make our yard look like a beautiful park. We love our home but the sight of our lawn is heartbreaking.

Ugly Lawn #36

After I saw your article I knew I had to enter your contest. Unfortunately my lawn is so bad that a couple pictures just doesn't cover it all.

Ugly Lawn #37

One year we actually had some nice looking grass growing in our back yard, it was almost lush. The next year it was thinner and has kept getting sparser every year.  Now we have dirt.  We notice other neighbors’ shaded lush lawns and don’t know how they have kept it that way.  This is the sunniest part of our backyard.  We have lots of bare spots.  Those will be filled with crabgrass, dandelions and other weeds this summer.  We have applied weed and feed every year and do Round-Up spot treatments in the summer. Please Help!

Ugly Lawn #38

Attached please find my UGLY and embarrassing lawn photos.  If you should choose to honor me with the prize to fix my lawn, I know my neighbors will be eternally grateful, as will I!!  My husband is not of the landscaping variety so after his many attempts to reseed, fertilize and even re-sod the lawn, it is getting worse every year. I thank you for your consideration!

Ugly Lawn #39

We have a nice playset and a nice patio and in between-a pathetic lawn. I have tried new sod, grass seed, and lots of fertilizer. I think our yard is in need of some professional help.
I know it was tough, but thanks for looking.

Ugly Lawn #40

Please enter my yard in the ugliest lawn contest. My lawn consists of
weeds and bare spots and is in desperate need of help. The majority of
our yard has been overtaken by some kind of vine/weed. The vine started
in my front yard and has progressed to my back yard. The purple flowers
are cute if they were in a flower bed, but not in my grass!

Ugly Lawn #41

Every year the grass gets worse. There seems to be more weeds than actual grass and this year we ended up with dead spots all over the lawn. Please help.

Ugly Lawn #42

I aerate, fertilize, and overseed every year, and this is what I get. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Ugly Lawn #43

Here's our photo of part of our back yard for your contest. We get a lot of moss that grows in the bare spots, lots of weeds and crabgrass. The ground is very hard when it dries out.

Ugly Lawn #44

This is my ugly lawn :(

Ugly Lawn #45

Well, here it is. Our sad excuse for a lawn! We don't know how to fix it, and our neighbors probably think we are avoiding it all together! This is our first house and we are so frustrated. We moved in to weeds at least 3 feet tall! So much work needed to be done. So we started working on it here and there. Now it is better. It went from hideous to, well, nevermind it is plain UGLY! My husband was laid off, and then an accident left us with only one car that was not reliable! No money was left for the lawn. Sometimes it is hard just paying for the house! Please help fix our lawn!!!

Ugly Lawn #46

well, we bought the ugliest house on the nicest street...and can't seem to make it as nice as the others. we get advice, dirty looks and whispers from the neighbors. she definately has potential but can't seem to do it ourselves... please vote for us!!!!!!!

Ugly Lawn #47

As you can see it is clear ,that much to our chagrin we have the ugliest lawn in Broadview Hts.! Not exactly something that we are proud of but we would certainly like to be the recipient of this prestigious award .
See , we moved in 2.5 summers ago and were told by neighbors that the previous owner never used weed killer or fertilizer .We immediately began some treatments and managed to remove some of the weeds . We have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on weed and feed ,aeration, top seeding, slit seeding and also have dug up many areas and top dressed and
re-seeded them .
Last spring the yard actually looked pretty good, all things considered. Then came the draught and due to the size of the yard we could not keep up with watering . This spring the yard looks hideous !!!!
It is a constant cause of argument. My wife wants a nice lawn and I just don't care anymore ! I can't keep throwing money in the lawn when nothing seems to help !
We are despondent and don't know what to do next !!!!!

Ugly Lawn #48

Ugly Lawn #49

I have the most unsightly lawn there is.
Please save it!

Ugly Lawn #50

We planted grass seed several times last year. My poor husband rented an overseeder and spent hours trying to get the seed to germinate. We had thunderstorms wash out the seed twice, and then the drought "dried up" our hopes of a lush green lawn. As you can see, our lawn is a dreadful sight and our 4 children have plenty of dirt in which to play! Thank you!

Ugly Lawn #51

Help my ugly lawn!

Ugly Lawn #52

Here is a picture of my lawn for your contest. Please help! I am a single mom and have no clue how to fix this. It just keeps getting worse and worse each year. I have bare patches and moss. I'd love a lush, green lawn.

Ugly Lawn #53

I KNOW I have the ugliest lawn around.  My soon to be ex-husband used to take care of it, but he left the state last year to re-enlist in the Marine Corps, and left me to take care of the lawn. Please help me with my ugly lawn.  I want a pretty lawn again.  Thank you.

Ugly Lawn #54

After 25 years of professional services, topsoil, lime and peat moss treatments, what we were left with was not a lawn at all, but patches of weeds, crabgrass and dirt.  We have even killed everything and started over twice (we were told the seed that was used was bad) but without any positive results.  We try telling ourselves that a lawn is not important, that we don't need to impress our neighbors and that wanting to have a nice lawn is superficial and shows lack of moral character or even 'having a life'.  But something deep inside says that your lawn is, in a small way, a reflection of you.  It tells everyone either that you have spent your life in a meaningful way, making a positive difference in peoples' lives, or that your life is a complete failure and that you can't even 'grow grass' right. Today is our 25Th wedding anniversary.  Our four children our mostly grown and, overall have exceeded any expectations we could have had for them.  Through strong faith and willingness to sacrifice for the needs of others, we have been able to weather all the storms of life that have come along somewhat unscathed.  We can look back and be thankful for all the good things we have been blessed with throughout our lives together and be truly joyful.  If only someone could do something about that ugly lawn!

Ugly Lawn #55

Attached is picture of my front lawn. Please use this for my entry in the ugliest lawn contest.

Ugly Lawn #56

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who has the ugliest lawn of all?
Patches of dirt and clumps of clay,
Up to our armpits in muck when we play,
Our lawn is so bad,
Its unsightly and sad,
Wont you please vote for it,
Because it looks just like...this?

Ugly Lawn #57

Here is just one picture of our ugly lawn. This is the front yard. The back yard is filled with moss and weeds, but at least it is green. Yikes! We just moved into this house in the winter and the yard looked a lot better with snow on it! It needs some major overhaul. We've tried a few things but it is an enormous job and in need of someone more qualified. Please help!

Ugly Lawn #58

Help! My husband is trying to grow new grass can't you tell? A closer look reveals that it is growing on our walk way so well! If our backyard could talk it would dial 911,
Calling Advanced Quality Lawn Care to get the job done!

Ugly Lawn #59

I have tried for 10 years to grow grass
here. I have replanted my lawn 3 times durign this time, 20 yards of topsoil later and the lawn still does not look good. We had a broken
water line to the house and had to tear out our driveway and replace the lawn again, still no luck here. I would appreciate being considered for the contest. I am sure that my lawn is treatable, perhaps I am doing something wrong. I appreciate your assistance with the endeavor.

Ugly Lawn #60

I'm forwarding you just one picture of my ugly lawn. This picture does not even reflect the most of my lawn that's in bad shape. I need your help.

Ugly Lawn #61

Here is our sad lawn, we put down some fertizlier, and took it off that's for sure. And look at the weeds! Please consider us, our neighbors lawns are near perfect.

Ugly Lawn #62

Please help my lawn! It is by far the ugliest lawn I have every seen.

Ugly Lawn #63

Help! We need a professional. We try, but the drought, the deer, and the busy schedules have all contributed to this pitiful looking lawn. We'd love a season-long lawn treatment from Advanced Quality Lawn Care! Hope you agree.

Photo coming soon...

Ugly Lawn #64

We need your help! My husband and I have been caring for my mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease. All of our time and money have been going towards her care. We are in desperate need of help with our lawn. Winning this contest would be a great start to try and get our lawn back.

Ugly Lawn #65

Here is my Ugliest Lawn entry. No way does this photo do justice to the ugliness of the lawn! What is shown here are some of the many dug-up tufts of grass from where some creature was searching earlier this year for grubs or something? What is not shown is the another turfless area or the re-seeded "crop circle" (actually a square) from last summer's extended backyard tenting. This patch of land is a botanist's dream, with just about every variety of grass, weed, flora and fauna available to Northeast Ohio yards!

Ugly Lawn #66

I bought my little ranch a couple years ago and instead of creating an outdoor retreat, I had to tap into the city water and city sewers.  So I have a very unsightly lawn, both in the front and the back from my project and the builders of the apartments surrounding me.  I have uneven ground where puddles of water like to accumulate, where of course no grass will grow.  I have areas where no grass has returned from my trees and the neighbors that left leaves from last fall that never made it up and out before the coming winter.  I have a mixture of greens in the yard that are a combination of diverse weeds that give the affect that there really might be green life growing this spring.  The only fertilizer this lawn has seen, would be the excrement of our fine pooches.  I know, what a visual!

I definitely don't have a green thumb, unless we're talking about weeds. Man, those flourish.

So "Please Help Me!!"  my yard screams.

Ugly Lawn #67

Two years ago we paid a landscaping business a lot of money to plant seed in our yard.
He said he planted the seed, but after looking over the yard I only found 2 seeds of grass in nearly an acre of land. I called him & he said it needed to be watered everyday & I would see results in about 2 weeks. I had been watering it each day, & continued to water it, sometimes with as many as 3 sprinklers,
8 hours a day. Still, nothing, I called him back, He said, sometimes you have to wait til the next Spring for it to take hold. So, I waited til the next Spring. Still nothing. Just some weeds that were there before. I tried calling him, again, Had to leave a message, no call-back, called again, no call-back. This continued all last summer. He never has called me back, So I stopped calling. I figure he just ripped me off.
So here I am, with the worst lawn ever. This picture does not even show how bad the whole yard is. I hope you chose me as your winner of a Fabulous lawn make-over. I sure do need it. All the neighbors laugh at my yard. I'm heart broken. Thanks for this opportunity to win.

Ugly Lawn #68

Help me!
This ugly lawn continues to grow. I need your vote to wipe out this mess &
beautify North Olmsted. I try to maintain the yard but this growth hinders me.
