Summer is upon us. Are you looking for an evening out under the stars and be entertained by a few? The best outdoor venue might be Cain Park located in Cleveland Heights.

Built in 1938, this small intimate amphitheater lies in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Besides the covered theatre seats, there is a grassy knoll for those who prefer the blanket or chair sections. I have found a few gems to mark down on your calendar and the admission ticket fees (under $20) will leave change in your pocket after paying the babysitter. Also, you’ll be glad you learned parallel parking in driving school since you’ll have to find a spot on one of the side streets.

So pack your favorite lawn blanket or soccer mom chairs, a picnic basket (remember no glass, cans, or beverages), and enjoy a relaxing moment at the following shows:

The a cappella group Chapter 6 is July 17th and features Luke Menard from this past season’s American Idol competition.

Folk singer David Francey from Ontario and blues player Harry Manx from British Columbia make an appearance on August 8th.

The wonderful Texas singer/songwriter Michelle Shocked will be performing with a full band on August 10th. Some of Michelle’s more familiar songs include “Anchorage,” “When I grow Up,” and “If Love was a Train.”
Another Ontario artist, Aril Verch, brings her fiddle and step dancing for all the bluegrass and roots music lovers on August 13th.

There are a pair of Cain Park shows that will cost you only two bucks. Hailing from down south in Cincinnati, Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist are the married couple at the heart of the band Over The Rhine. The nationally touring and critically acclaimed group will likely sell out the Evans Amphitheater on July 22, so get your tickets as soon as you finish reading this story. Their epic 2003 release Ohio and 2005’s Drunkard’s Prayer are prerequisites before attending this performance.

Another two buck chuck on July 29th is Gandalf Murphy and The Slambovian Circus of Dreams.
Now if the name doesn’t intrigue you enough, check out their Myspace page as well as pages on all the above mentioned artists.
