Over the summer months, children will lose as much as 25% of what they’ve learned during the school year,” says Marybeth Murphy, co-owner of KnowledgePoints Learning Centers—a leader in individualized student instruction. “We’re here to help fill the educational gaps and provide stimulating hands-on learning that keeps a student’s interest and competence.”

To do that, KnowledgePoints is introducing two summer camp programs that are jam-packed with creative math and science modules guaranteed to keep kids learning—and having fun.

“We recognize that sending a child to a full-day, week-long learning camp can be cost prohibitive,” Marybeth relates. “Our schedule allows parents to choose as few or as many modules as they’d like, and each is priced at a budget-friendly $20.”

There are two age-appropriate camp levels that both run from the week of June 22 through the week of August 10. The camps are comprised of one two-hour day per week for a total of eight sessions. Choose whichever modules you’d like, or sign up for all eight and enjoy a savings of $20. “That’s like getting one session free,” Marybeth adds.

“We’re offering hands-on activities that teach the basic skills that every child should have,” offers Education Advisor Anissa Pletcher. “Summer is a perfect time for educational enrichment.”

Here is an example of what each camp level will include:

Grades 1-3
Week-one finds children in the science module making and tasting delicious “solar s’mores” while also learning about how to cook outside and other ways to get heat. During the week four math module, campers will learn about measurements. “We’re going to take a hot air corn popper, spread out a sheet, and let the corn fly out everywhere. Then we’ll measure the distance it travels from the popper,” Anissa shares. During week seven, the science module is entitled “Baggie Science” and kids get to put items into a baggie and watch the chemical and physical changes take place. “It’s going to get slimy,” she adds with a smile.

Middle School
Week one finds campers learning all about themselves. “We’ll be exploring the science of DNA,” Anissa says. In week four, the math module will engage campers in learning to classify plain and solid figures as they apply to geometry, then in week eight, campers will learn all about how sweet it is to be a honey bee and the important role it plays in our ecology.

Also available at KnowledgePoints is a summer school enhancement program. “We work with the child’s school to help ensure that he or she can progress to the next grade level,” Anissa says. “The enhancement program isn’t just limited to younger kids. Many college students find it helpful as well. It’s just the right boost to help with passing a difficult class.”

Children who are doing well but are eager to get a jump on the coming school year often turn to KnowledgePoints to get that necessary leg up, and, Marybeth says, visiting the center just two times a week for instruction can result in a marked improvement.

Other students may be struggling to stay at grade level and require an educational boost to ensure they don’t fall behind. “Our licensed teachers are matched with students based on areas that need improvement,” she continues. “A simple assessment can tell us exactly which subjects to focus on. Sometimes it can be difficult for parents to know where to start. A stress-free evaluation is an ideal way to begin.”

Marybeth is also quick to point out that unlike some educational enhancement centers, KnowledgePoints does not require parents to commit to a long-term contract and works very hard to get students to where they need to be.
“We’ll make recommendations as to frequency, but how often a student comes is up to the parents,” she assures.

“We are genuinely committed to doing what’s best for the child. It’s about establishing a relationship with the parents, classroom teachers and the kids. We’re building a support system for the students.”

KnowledgePoints Learning Centers serve:  Brecksville, Broadview Hts, Brunswick, Independence, N Royalton, Medina, Parma, Seven Hills, Strongsville and surrounding communities.
