Project Lifesaver
By: Brunswick Division of PoliceDate: 04/17/2008
In September of 2006, the Brunswick Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, in partnership with the Brunswick Division of Police, introduced the Project Lifesaver program to the Brunswick Community.
Their mission is to use state of the art technology in assisting those who care for victims of Alzheimer's and other Related Mental Disorders (ARMD) and victims who become lost. These victims include the elderly and even the youngest in our community who are affected with Down Syndrome and Autism.
Individuals enrolled in Project Lifesaver wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. When caregivers notify the brunswick Division of Police that the person is missing, a search and rescue team responds to the wanderer's area and starts searching with the mobile locator tracking system.
These searches can be completed on ground or in the air. Project Lifesaver teams are specially trained in search and rescue as well as use of the electronic tracking equipment and dealing one on one with the wanderer.
This has helped to serve the community by significantly reducing the need for extensive search and rescue operations that are extremely costly in terms of human and financial resources.
