Outdoor Spaces That Rock!

Rock Bottom Landscaping owner Ed Lechler describes the million-dollar appeal of his company’s designs as surprisingly within reach. No matter what size project, his team can bring it to life.

You don’t need to be a computer design wizard to have a great idea.
In fact, says Ed Lechler, owner of Rock Bottom Lawn and Landscaping, one of the biggest landscape jobs he’s ever done came to him drawn on a napkin.
“A lady was at a wedding with her husband and drew a backyard kitchen and fireplace on a napkin and said, ‘This is what I want,’ Ed recalls. “She held onto it for three years before she showed it to me and said, ‘I hear you do patios and landscaping. Here’s my idea.’ We ran with it from there. It was a gorgeous project. So when somebody walks in with a napkin, I listen. You bring in your idea, and we’ll bring it home for you.”
Will they ever.
When you peruse a catalog of Belgard pavers and hardscape products, some of the incredible projects displayed inside were done by Rock Bottom, Ed boasts. For five years the company was the feature attraction in the Cleveland Home and Garden Show’s Home Idea Center.
And now it’s easier than ever to have Rock Bottom bring your dreams to life.
Just drop into the company’s new 2,000-square-foot Strongsville showroom on Prospect Road, near Westwood Drive, in the old James Lumber building.
Ed’s highly skilled team will help to refine and design your concept into a reality beyond what you imagine possible. Rock Bottom’s creative designers will work with you to move your idea from the napkin to 3-D images and CAD drawings—then into your backyard.
“Not many companies have what we have here,” Ed explains. “Our showroom is like a home and garden show every day.We created it so that people could come by, talk to a landscape design architect in person, and get to know us. We’re far more than just a guy on the other end of the phone.”
The showroom, while demonstrating Rock Bottom’s capabilities, also takes the hurry out of planning this summer’s project.
“Even in the winter, you can come in and look over our selection of pavers and retaining walls and our selection of sandstone and natural stone,” Ed says. “You can see some of our design projects and get things started with a designer. You don’t have to wait until the snow melts.”
Some things to think about for the coming year, Ed suggests, are outdoor grills, and peaceful and gorgeous water features to accent your patio or a stately pergola.
“We have a great deal on pergolas,” Ed announces. “We were showing them at the Great Big Home and Garden Show last month and people were expecting a price of around five grand. When we told them they were just $2,800 they were asking ‘Where do I sign up?’”
Outdoor cooking is becoming more popular all the time. While elaborate full outdoor kitchens are wonderful, Ed promises that you can enjoy the summer without going over your budget by just adding a built-in grill or small sitting area.
Water features, he emphasizes, are growing in popularity, too.
“Everybody wants something with water, whether it’s a big pond with fish, a waterfall, or just a bubbling urn or vase,” he says.
A backyard creation by Rock Bottom Landscaping allows you a getaway that is conveniently right outside your door all year long.
“We help to give people the ability to relax in the privacy of their yard and enjoy the stars and listen to the birds and animals,” Ed explains. “It’s like being in a nature preserve that you can escape to whenever you want to.”
Ed notes that along with the pleasure of an outdoor entertainment area, a beautiful patio can be a sound investment.
“It has a fantastic impact on the resale value of your home,” he says. “When a buyer sees an unfinished yard he sees an expense in waiting.”
Ed proudly boasts that Rock Bottom’s projects not only are designed to look spectacular by a talented team of landscape architects, but they also are built to last by skilled craftsmen utilizing rugged materials.
“There is more to putting in a patio than laying bricks,” Ed insists. “We take it to the next level by educating ourselves about the region’s soils and freeze cycles. We know how the weather is going to impact the foundation and the surface, and we design accordingly.”
Most of Rock Bottom’s projects feature beautiful and durable Belgard pavers.
“We work hand-in-hand with Belgard and it is a blessing,” Ed says. “They make one of the best products on the market. More and more people are replacing walkways and driveways with pavers. No matter what product you like, we only use the best on the market—manufactured or natural. Our materials have a lifetime warranty.”
If you’ve seen Rock Bottom’s work, don’t be intimidated.
They’ve created some of the most elaborate outdoor living areas around—and they’ve even been summoned to places as far away as South Carolina to do custom work. But they can do lower-budget projects as well.
“We have done a lot of high-end work,” Ed says. “But don’t be afraid to call or come in because you think we only do million dollar homes.”
In fact, despite its high-profile landscape projects, Rock Bottom still does routine maintenance, like lawn mowing and snow plowing, specializing in commercial campuses, apartment buildings and condominium complexes.
Rock Bottom Landscaping offers a no-cost initial consultation and no-cost estimates on all projects.
