NOVEMBER 8, 2007—Did you realize that Northeast Ohio has another Diva besides Chrissie Hynde? One left Akron to find fame and fortune in London. The other came across the Atlantic from England to find a new home in Ohio. She has become a favorite to those who love Jazz, Broadway, and timeless standards. For those of you who are still in the dark, I’m speaking of Helen Welch.

Raised in Norwich, England, Helen started out as a teacher and business woman. After several years, she realized that happiness could be found only by following her passion to sing professionally. Helen studied acting and voice before landing roles in British stage productions of classic Broadway musicals. Helen won a contest to fly to New York and perform on Broadway in Smokey Joe’s Café. But afterwards, she returned to London to sing with the finest UK big bands and several other projects.

A gig in the French Alps to combine work with her love for skiing turned into a fairy tale. It was there she crossed paths with an American man on the slopes and did so again in the exact same spot one year later. A whirlwind courtship transpired and our leading man Douglas brought Helen to his home state of Ohio in 2003.
There are several upcoming performances where you may catch the dazzling Helen Welch in venues throughout Northeast Ohio. Helen will be at Cleveland’s premier jazz club Nighttown at 12387 Cedar Road in Cleveland Heights on November 9th, 16th, and 23rd.

A night at The Sheraton in Cuyahoga Falls is slated for November 30th.

She will be backed by The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra on November 10th and performing her Jingle Bell Swing Show with the Dave Stevens Big Band on December 21st at the Akron Civic Theatre. The Jingle Bell Swing show will also be performed on December 16th at the Palace Theatre located in Cleveland’s Playhouse Square.
Helen Welch has also performed at the Carousel Dinner Theatre and Cain Park. Click onto her webpage and sign up to be included on future e-mail blasts at www.HelenWelch.com.
