MAY 3, 2007—When the weather starts getting nice, do you tend to roll the windows down and let the car stereo blast a great song? Yes, I admit, I’m guilty of this ritual and singing along to the annual summer anthem.

Okay, you heard it here first—a Mimi exclusive—the hottest song on the jukebox this summer will be...“Sometimes It Takes Balls To Be A Woman.” You can find this song and 10 other tracks on a new album being released this week by Elizabeth Cook titled…uh... Balls. Produced by well known singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell, Elizabeth’s fourth release is filled with real songs about real people and real life.

Elizabeth is pure East Nashville and the brightest talent to come out of Music Row in 2007. She grew up in rural Florida—with parents who played local country bars—and worked her way through college, graduating from Georgia Southern in 1996 with a degree in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. She took a job with Price Waterhouse’s Nashville office before quitting and signing her first publishing deal in 1997.

Elizabeth made her Grand Ole Opry debut on March 17, 2000, appearing repeatedly thereafter—a remarkable achievement considering that, at the time, she was an indie artist with no radio airplay. “I write what I love,” says Elizabeth, “and I love to communicate what I write. Most of all, I write to help heal myself. Music has traditionally helped people feel better and gotten them through hard times.”

She released an independent self titled CD (known as the Blue Album) that year and made her major label debut in 2002 with Hey Y’All. Ironically, due to corporate restructuring, promotion of that album was virtually abandoned. So in 2004 Elizabeth went back to work with an independent release called This Side of the Moon, drawing rave reviews and acclaim not only from critics, but from established artists as well.
