More and more people are replacing walkways and driveways with pavers because they look a lot better than concrete and they are going to last longer.

Rock Bottom Lawn and Landscaping has once again been hired to design and landscape the signature Boulevard of Homes at the annual Home and Garden Show at the I-X Center. After you visit the display at the show, here’s how you can create your own spectacular vacation getaway—in your own backyard.

A lot of people go on vacation.

Rock Bottom Lawn and Landscaping brings the vacation to you.

“With high gasoline prices and the economy like it is, more and more people are making investments into their homes,” says Ed Lechler, owner of Rock Bottom in Valley City. “People are adding beautiful brick patios with fireplaces and fire pits and gorgeous landscaping so they can entertain and enjoy their own yards.”

A backyard creation by Rock Bottom Landscaping gives you a getaway that is right outside your door—not a five-hour flight away. And they can design a getaway to fit any budget.

“We help give people the ability to relax in the privacy of their yard and enjoy the stars and listen to the birds and animals,” Ed explains. “It’s like being in a nature preserve that you can escape to whenever you want.”

While you enjoy the tranquility of your new yard, it might be Ed who is traveling.

“Rock Bottom has traveled to Michigan, Indiana, New York and Pennsylvania—as far as South Carolina,” Ed says.

“People have seen our work and they want to know if we’ll travel out of state to do work for them, and we will.”

That’s because Rock Bottom doesn’t do cookie cutter patios. Each project is an original creation, specially designed to fit your yard and your dreams.

“Nothing we do is ordinary,” Ed insists. “Anybody can do ordinary work. Our customers are people who aren’t looking to copy what their neighbor is doing. They want something different and unique. We are a quality-based company, not a quantity-based company. We’re not trying to do 1,000 projects in a year, but the ones we design will be wonderful and unique.”

Ed proudly boasts that Rock Bottom’s projects not only are designed by a talented team of landscape architects to look spectacular, but they also are built to last by skilled craftsmen utilizing rugged materials.

“There is more to putting in a patio than laying bricks,” Ed insists. “We take it to the next level by educating ourselves about the region’s soils and freeze cycles. We know how the weather is going to impact the foundation and the surface and we design accordingly.”

Most of Rock Bottom’s projects feature beautiful and durable Belgard pavers.

“We work hand in hand with Belgard and it is a blessing,” Ed says. “They make the best product on the market. More and more people are replacing walkways and driveways with pavers because they look a lot better than concrete and they are going to last longer. Our materials have a lifetime warranty.”

Rock Bottom can incorporate a variety of attractive and convenient features into your new patio. Fireplaces and heated enclosures, for example, can extend the use of your yard into the winter. And underground heating systems are especially convenient for brick walkways and driveways—you may never have to shovel snow again.

Ed notes that along with the pleasure of an outdoor entertainment area, a beautiful patio can be a sound investment.

“It has a fantastic impact on the resale value of your home,” he says. “When buyers see an unfinished yard, they see an expense in waiting.”

In the early 1990s Ed started Rock Bottom as a lawn maintenance service.

“Anybody can push a lawnmower around,” he explains. “I was looking to do something more creative and to add value to people’s homes. This business was built by listening to our customers.”

Rock Bottom still offers lawn maintenance and landscaping services, but it’s the awe-inspiring backyard creations that have become the company’s hallmark. It’s what has brought Rock Bottom back for the fourth straight year to design the landscape for the Home and Garden Show’s prestigious Boulevard of Homes. Expositions Inc., which hosts the annual event at the IX Center, once again has hired Rock Bottom to design and landscape the show’s signature display.

“Our patios are designed with the perfect blend of stone and nature,” Ed says, pointing out the Boulevard exhibit. “The landscaping ties it all together. Without the plants it’s just a big brickyard. I work with some of the best landscape architects around. They know plants and trees and what will work in this climate and what won’t.”

And Ed boasts just as passionately about his expert installers.

“I have the best employees in the industry,” he proclaims. “They are local workers who put a lot of pride into their work.”

Rock Bottom’s creative designers will work with you to plan the perfect patio, using 3-D images and CAD drawings.

“Some projects are done in a couple months and others are extensive plans that take five years to complete,” Ed says. “Sometimes people want to do their project in stages so they are not paying for it all at once, and we work with them to work out what should be done first and what can be added later.”

To get your project scheduled, you should call now. As spring approaches, Rock Bottom’s schedule fills up quickly, especially after the Home and Garden Show.

To see Rock Bottom’s work for yourself, drop in to the Home and Garden Show at the IX Center through February 10 and stroll over to the Boulevard of Homes. Look for the huge display featuring a stone patio and majestic fireplace in a beautiful park-like setting. Call Rock Bottom Lawn and Landscaping at 330-225-1818.
