You realize the importance of exercise and living a healthy lifestyle, especially if you’re a baby boomer observing the impacts of age on your mirror reflection, or feeling the growing strain of pushing yourself up the stairs. But maybe you’re a little hesitant to get involved in a health club. After all, you may not know where to begin with your workout program, and may fear appearing to be technologically challenged trying to figure out how to work all those high tech machines.
That’s why LifeWorks of Southwest General is here for you.
“You’re not alone when you join LifeWorks,” assures Karen Raisch-Siegel, LifeWorks’ executive director. “Your membership includes full access to a professional staff of degreed exercise specialists who know what they’re doing. They’ll help you learn to exercise and build a healthier lifestyle. We’re here for those who want to improve their health.”
That’s one reason why LifeWorks—owned and operated by Southwest General Health Center—was voted “Best Gym” in Cleveland two years in a row on the Fox 8 Hotlist.
A LifeWorks membership includes the use of all of the facility’s leading-edge equipment and 90 weekly classes that range from aquatic exercises and Spinning to Pilates, yoga, Zumba and Iron Body.
And with LifeWorks’ QuickStart orientation for its members, it couldn’t be easier to get working on your life-changing program.
QuickStart is six free thirty-minute-sessions with an exercise specialist that starts with a “getting to know each other” meeting. An exercise specialist will review your health history and discuss what you want to accomplish and then design a program that fits your lifestyle. At the next session, you’ll learn how to set LifeWorks’ state of the art equipment perfectly for your workout.
The computerized machinery will memorize your settings and will prompt you during your subsequent workouts with your personal identification number.
Using LifeWorks’ Visual Fitness planner software, an exercise specialist will show you how you might look when you reach the goals of your program.
“It’s a before and after program that will show you how you will look and how your health risk factors will decrease when you lose 20 pounds,” says Leigh Cavalli, personal training coordinator.
Once you sign up, the place is yours. Feel free to use any of the equipment, or utilize the expertise of the LifeWorks staff.
“A big difference with us is we have degreed exercise specialists working the fitness floor,” Karen says. “They know what they’re doing and they are always accessible for you. You can have a consultation, have your body fat tested, or have a fitness test any time you want. It’s all included in the membership.”
Along with the latest equipment, LifeWorks features free weights, an indoor and outdoor track, two aerobics studios, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, a six-lane lap pool, and a warm water pool that is kept at 91 to 93 degrees—perfect for arthritis exercises.
Both the men’s and women’s locker rooms feature digital locks and offer their own hot tubs, dry saunas and wet steamers.
Karen says the hottest new addition to LifeWorks is the TRX Group Suspension class, which is available for an additional fee.
TRX has been voted best exercise equipment in men’s and women’s health magazines and was featured on TV’s “The Biggest Loser.” Classes started this month.
If you are looking for help with personal nutrition, LifeWorks also has a Nutrition Coach available to both members and non-members for an additional fee. This program gives you the tools and techniques to get your diet on the right track.
Having kids is no excuse not to exercise. LifeWorks’ childcare center is available and features a roomful of toys, crafts and other activities.
