To call or not to call?

At this very moment, you may be vexed by a nagging tax or accounting issue, but are afraid to phone your accountant because of what it might cost. If your CPA is Dawn Hryshko, of Hryshko and Associates, go ahead and call.

There’s no reason not to.

We don’t nickel and dime our clients,” Dawn emphasizes. “We set up a flat fee for the year, which means we’re always available to you. The meter doesn’t start running when we pick up the phone. If you have a question, please give me a call—even if you think it’s silly.”

In fact, Dawn says, because she and her assistant, Danna Bedard, develop close friendships with many of their clients, business calls often become personal calls.

“Danna is frequently on the phone with somebody for an hour,” Dawn laughs. “We have way too much fun to be a CPA office.”

“I give the same expert service that a large firm will give, but on a smaller and more personal scale and without the high price,” Dawn says.

A working mother, Dawn left the high-pressure corporate accounting world a few years ago because it didn’t blend well with family life. But she didn’t leave behind her talent and expertise.

Dawn specializes in small business accounting, and has clients who work in a number of different industries. She has a special fondness for new business startups.

“Working with startups is one of my favorite things to do,” she smiles. “The best time to call us is when you’re just thinking about starting a business so we can go over the best options for you. It’s very important to do the right thing the first year and set up a solid foundation.”

Flow-through entities (like Chapter S corporations and LLCs) are popular structures among small businesses. Dawn notes that the Internal Revenue Service is going to step up its audits of such businesses this year.

“It’s important to know what the rules are and where you can benefit from the tax laws,” she advises. “If you get an audit notice, we’re there to take care of it for you. Income tax preparation doesn’t have to be stressful.
It’s really not that big a deal.”

While specializing in small business accounting, Dawn also offers her expertise in the preparation of individual tax returns as well. It’s a specialized skill set that you probably won’t find when you walk into one of the “fast food” tax preparation chains.

“There are some highly trained people working there. On the other hand, some are not. They are in the business of preparing tax returns. That’s what they do. As a CPA, I am paid to analyze and advise my clients,” she adds.
